on Saturday 20 January. They are asking other workers to join it.
General Motors, the owners of Vauxhall, dropped the bombshell news of closure just two days before the Christmas
holiday, despite making millions of pounds in profit in the last year.
Now all the major unions at the plant-the TGWU, AEEU, MSF and GMB-are to distribute literature to their branches this week urging them to send delegations to the march.
In april over 100 000 people marched in Birmingham for Rover. "We want this to be our Rover demonstration," says a TGWU shop steward at Vauxhall. "We are hoping for a massive
response. We've been petitioning locally and got brilliant support. Everyone is saying enough is enough. We are sick of
multinationals coming in and doing what they like-causing devastation."
Vauxhall workers are also preparing to take action on 25 January as part of a Europe-wide day of action to save the plant.
Fax messages of support to John Jack, TGWU convenor, on 01582 426 873 or 01582 426 221. E-mail johnjack@vauxhall.co.uk
