Some of the people who first brought awareness of the dangers of GE (genetic engineering) being deployed in England's fields to the attention of the general public are now going through the unpleasant rigours of a second trial for attempting to destroy a crop of GE maize from the Biotech giant Aventis, fomerly known as AgrEvo.

There was no public consultation before the unleashing of this potential pollution and ineradicable danger into our countryside. There was no use of what sound science is based upon - the Precautionary Principle.

Whilst Government prevaricated, swayed no doubt by big business concerns, Greenpeace tried every avenue to persuade against allowing the crop to flower (and hence spread its pollen far and wide - perhaps even to organically certified crops - you know, the ones the public are now crying out for and can't get enough of due mainly to a lack of government foresight?)

So they resorted to pulling the crop up and, inevitably, got arrested.

Now they're going through it all over again - no wonder they sound tired.
