CHRISTA and John Hale visibly fill with pride as they describe how they have transformed their beloved Highland home from a dilapidated wreck into a rural idyll.Rented 13 years ago to fulfil the Hale's dream of retiring in their favourite glen in Edzell, Angus, the couple have spent more than £50,000 on the farmhouse in which they expected to spend the rest of their days.
"We are very scared and threatened. No one has the means to stay here."
But now they, and about 20 other families, are to lose their homes as they become the victims of the latest ruthless Highland clearance by one of Britain's richest families.
And to add insult to injury the Hales and their neighbours have been offered £10 by the Cayzer family to show prospective buyers around their own homes.

Tractors and Trolleys against GM: Jonnys cycling tour from Munlochy to London
Jonny is cycling from Munlochy to London pulling a coffin on a trailer. This is to represent the death of consumer choice should GM crops be grown in this country. Please come along to give him a good send-off and accompany him by bicycle to Inverness, where they are due to depart from Inverness High Street at 1pm.Jonny states:
My reasons for doing this green pilgrimage are several:
I am publicly showing my support for a sustainable and GM-Free Britain along with many in Scotland and the rest of the British Isles who want the same,whether or not they are travelling to London like me;
I am joining in the national mass rally in London on the 13th of October but on the way am visiting communities and public places to raise awareness of the Green Gloves Pledge to take direct action if the GM crops are legalised this year in the UK;
Thirdly this journey is a celebration of the success of the anti-GM campaign by ordinary people in Britain.
pics of "Kasa de la Muntanya" support protest in Edinburgh
Demonstrators descended on the Spanish Consulate in Edinburgh on 29th September to express solidarity with the threatened Barcelona squat LA KASA DE LA MUNTANYA.Placard-waving protestors plastered the Consulate with flyers, delivered a letter to the Consulate-General and distributed leaflets denouncing the attempted eviction of the self-managed community centre.
"For 14 years LA KASA DE LA MUNTANYA has been a community, cultural and social centre run on principles of self-organisation and self-regulation. Despite the fact that there is clear evidence that the Spanish government has obtained ownership of the building illegally and has no plans for its use, an eviction has been scheduled for 2nd October," declared flyers distributed by the dozen demonstrators.
