The "Use of the Armed Forces" in America under a National Emergency

27-06-2007 17:48 | Anti-militarism | Repression | Terror War | World

Taken together, NSPD 51 and Sec 1042 of the DDAA 07 define the contours of a "democratic dictatorship" in America (in the case of a National Emergency) under the authority of the White House.

We are not dealing with "Military Rule" or "Military Government" as normally understood, because the authority to govern is still vested in the President and Vice President. What is at stake is the unrestricted and arbitrary "Use" of the Military by the President /Vice President in the conduct of police and law enforcement functions.

General Predicts Israel Will Attack Iran, Syria, Hamas, Hezbollah this Summer

26-06-2007 21:59 | Lebanon War 2006 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Terror War | World

It is a provocative headline: “Israel braces for July war with up to five enemies.” If we are to believe Israeli military intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Amos Yadlin, this attack will be launched by Iran, Syria, Hizbullah, Hamas and, of course, “al-Qaeda,” the database. “Each of these adversaries is capable of sparking a war in the summer,” Yadlin told the World Tribune. In other words, Israel is capable of attacking one or all of these “adversaries,” as Israel has a notorious history of attacking its neighbors under contrived pretense.

Phares: Gaza Fighting Part of Iran-Syria Plot

25-06-2007 21:38 | Anti-militarism | Palestine | Terror War | World

According to neocon Walid Phares, writing for FrontPageMagazine, Iran and Syria are “involved in a regional campaign to seize as much physical terrain and score as many victories across the Middle East in order to consolidate their strategic posture” before Bush leaves office. Phares’ “Tehran-Damascus axis” is “arming and supplying neo-Taliban and other Jihadi forces in Afghanistan,” stirring up sectarian divisions in Iraq, and “has unleashed two blitzkrieg-like offensives” in Lebanon and Gaza.

Mammoth electoral fraud in Philippines elections: Padding and shaving

23-06-2007 08:07 | Anti-militarism | Repression | Social Struggles | London | World

Philippine election
Nearly three weeks after election day, there are still no definitive results for the Philippine elections to the Senate and House of Representatives. Counting is still continuing and in a number of provinces it has not even begun. This has nothing to do with inefficiency and everything to do with ballot-rigging. The Philippines is one of the most corrupt ‘democracies’ in the world.

“Fred Thompson, who may join the Republican presidential race, said today that the U.S. and its allies should consider a blockade against Iran before military action to curb the nation’s nuclear ambitions,” reports Bloomberg. “Thompson didn’t give details about his view for a possible blockade or discuss whether it should be limited to naval power or extended to cover Iran’s land borders with Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkey or Azerbaijan.”

In short, it appears the groundwork for an attack against either the United States, Europe, or both, is underway, and for the usual reasons—to terrorize the blinkered public into acquiescing to a police state, a project well advanced but in need of a few important flourishes.

Lieberman hides from CASMII

19-06-2007 09:10 | Anti-militarism | Terror War | World

Around 35 of us opponents of war on Iran (mobilized on two days notice with help from CASMII) were told Thursday afternoon at Senator Lieberman's office in Washington that we couldn't actually meet with him. The appointment Code Pink activists had secured earlier in the week, a day after the Senator said on national TV that Iran should be attacked militarily if it "doesn't play by the rule," was thus scrapped unilaterally. We were told by Lieberman's staff we were denied a meeting because they divined our intention was to stage a sit-in and hunger strike!

Peace is Dead, give War a Chance

As the Middle East explodes in factional and sectarian conflict the neo-cons gloat, John Bolton and Condi Rice revealed U.S. policy during the South Lebanon conflict, their non-interventionist policy encouraged the slaughter of children and civilians by Israeli forces – peace is clearly of no use to American interests! What does it matter if most of the Middle East tears itself apart, America stands to gain from the mayhem and bloodshed.

Document details 'US' plan to sink Hamas

16-06-2007 15:06 | Anti-militarism | World

Some context that the MSM seems to have missed.

Hamas may have been motivated by the knowledge that Abbas and Fatah were unwitting partners in a US-Israeli plot. Sadly, however, now the shoe seems to have now been placed on the other foot.
