Video Photo at Bridewell, after demo and march from Nottingham's new Market Square
Today in seven UK cities including Nottingham and Leicester, the Congolese community and their supporters held demonstrations to focus attention on government plans to categorise the 'Democratic' Republic of Congo as a 'safe' country to return people who have been fleeing the violence to the UK in search of security. In Nottingham people rallied and marched, highlighting that the Congolese who have already been deported face a very uncertain fate.

Introducing Palestine, Peace Not Apartheid

28-03-2007 07:30 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | Palestine | World

I excitedly purchased the distinguished former American president Jimmy Carter's new book "Palestine, Peace Not Apartheid" and put it on my bookshelf to read the moment I got the chance. Alas, this book will now surely always sit there gathering dust and unread, because before I could get to it, I read the following account in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz about this book that greatly disturbed me. A new red herring has been cleverly introduced into the discourse space, albeit enlarging it somewhat, but not sufficiently for me to waste my time chasing down yet another distinguished red herring.

Aussie Torture Victim pleads ‘Guilty’

27-03-2007 12:57 | Anti-militarism | Other Press | Social Struggles | World

In circumstances that could only be described as ‘railroading’ and coercive, the Aussie battler, David Hicks has pleaded guilty to one count of providing material support to terrorists. Few Australians, including leading legal advocates accept the ‘trial’ of Hicks as legally legitimate. The flagrantly rogue court convened under the most biased and unfair conditions also disqualified Hicks’ civilian lawyers at the last minute. Hicks’ (now) disqualified lawyers accused the presiding judge, Lieutenant Colonel Ralph Coleman of making up the rules as he went along – there is nothing new in the ‘legal’ proceedings at Guantanamo Bay!

UN Security Or United Rape?

27-03-2007 12:04 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Repression | World

As I watched Iran being hauled in front of the United Nations ‘Security’ Council, a vivid picture conjured up in my mind – my native country Iran, a vulnerable and defenseless beauty being prepared for violation by brutal savages. As she struggles to defend her honor, no one is prepared to come to her aid, save a few. Even her own children, those raised on her soil hope she will be brutally violated. With lust-filled eyes, they hope to fulfill their ambitions on her ravaged ruins, her broken pride.

Why are people not massing in the streets, as they were before the illegal invasion of Iraq? We know the plans are the same. is the Antiwar Movement in denial about what's been plotted, or deflated by the willingness of Fascists to ignore the Popular Will?

People must see the Opposition.
