The Solidarity Collective

Solidarity Collective | 22.11.2013 01:42 | Analysis | Repression | Social Struggles | Liverpool | London

The Solidarity Collective was formed in November 2013 to endeavor to address some of the difficulties facing the wider activists networks. Specifically the conflict and in fighting that has crippled and damaged activism in full view of the public.

United we stand divided we fall.

We are an international group of activists and concerned citizens, with a broad range of perspectives and opinions. We have come together in the spirit of cooperation and solidarity, out of a desire to see positive change.
We recognise that not all activist groups can (or should!) agree on everything. However, we want to create a space where we can discover what goals we have in common, work together to achieve them, and hopefully resolve differences that are creating unnecessary opposition and division between factions.

We wish to analyse our consolidated strengths and weaknesses respectfully, and pool our experiences and resources for greater effect. Together, we believe we can effect real change in society. If we can strengthen and create bonds with activist groups with a common purposes; we can better focus on the challenges we face, without getting caught up in in-fighting and petty differences.

We have been brought together in difficult circumstances, following what we perceive to be attacks on freedoms of speech, expression and association within wider activist networks. Our conduct is governed by dedication to freedom of speech, and equality of opportunity to be heard. We believe that suppression of free speech causes and maintains power inequalities in wider society. We do not believe oppression leads to liberation.

We recognise that we do not yet have all the answers to every problem, but through a combination of research, dignified conversation and debate, we hope to find truth and establish solutions to problems which hurt and hinder societies around the world. We reject dogma, and are suspicious of the way mass media and politicians portray what is going on in the world.
“When war is declared, truth is the first casualty.” Aeschylus
