Hysteria and Hypocrisy: US/UK Response to the Death of Hugo Chavez

With some notable and praiseworthy exceptions, the English speaking western media’s response to the death of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has been little more than hysterical, hypocritical propaganda. For these states, with their increasingly questionable claims on democracy, justice and suffrage, to herald the end of a Chavez as the ‘death of a dictator’ is almost breathtaking in its doublespeak.

Hugo Chavez was elected President of Venezuela on 7 October 2012 with 8,191,132 cast ballots and 55.07% of the popular vote.

If you say that makes him a dictator...then I will say that you are a threat to Democracy and that you must be killed with extreme prejudice at the earliest convenience. That may involve the culling of your family and the killing of your neighbours.

When your carcas is piled onto a pyre for burning and disposal, you will be identified as terrorist and all your belongings seized to pay the families of your victims in reparations. Any and all expense that we incur while carrying out your slaughter must be repayed to us within 28 days or bailiffs will be informed and any person related to you will be subject to recovery proceedings for the outstanding debt in the courts.

Any attempt to resist our final judgement will be grounds for further action against any known associate you have been involved with in the past.

We do not negotiate with terrorists.

That is my judgment and that is my final word.
