Palestine Solidarity in Hackney

David Jones | 04.04.2004 08:24 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | Social Struggles | London

Six pictures of the new Hackney Palestine Solidarity Campaign building support for tearing down the Israeli's Apartheid Wall, brilliantly supported by the Rhythms of Resistance samba band; Stoke Newington Church Street, Sat 3 Apr 04.

On Sat 3 Apr 04, the streets of Stoke Newington, North London, UK, came alive with Palestine Solidarity actions. The London chapter ( http://www.ism-london.org) of the International Solidarity Movement ( http://palsolidarity.org) held one of our monthly training weekends - for volunteers who are going to Palestine to provide active practical solidarity within the Palestinian communities - in a social centre on Stoke Newington Church Street. When we broke for lunch, the scintillating sounds of samba drifted down the road to greet us. On further investigation, who should be generating such uplifting beats but the Rhythms of Resistance! ( http://http://www.rhythmsofresistance.co.uk) They were supporting a street stall by the new Hackney Palestine Solidarity Campaign ( http://www.palestinecampaign.org), who were getting a great response from local people for their anti-Apartheid Wall message. So I whipped out my trusty Xda II and snapped these pix - share and enjoy.

Peace & Love, David Jones

I'm a former Irish solider who was part of a european peacekeeping force sent out to Palastine in the early 1990s (Formally based at Collins Barracks Dublin) and on several occasions we were fired apon by Israeli forces as we tried to prevent innocent palastinian women and children being shot at by trigger happy Israeli troops.

On numerous occasions our commanding officer gave the order to fire above the heads of Israeli troops as warnings that if any member of the Irish force were shot at and hit we'd return fire.

While I was there I made many palastinian friends, and these people are not fanatical in any way the real fanatics are the zionists who want to crush everyone but themselves and it is nice to see that these people do have support in Hackney, UK.

An Ex-Irish Soldier who served as a peace keeper.

RIGHT ON!
