Protest the use of Llanbedr airfield for drone testing - Noon 30 Oct

'More Welsh land and airspace to be used to practice killing', this is how Cymdeithas y Cymod, the Fellowship of Reconciliation responds to the news that Llanbedr Airfield is now officially open.

Qinetiq and the Llanbedr Airfield announced on October 22 that the airfield is 'open for business to test flight operations of RPAS, Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems '. Drones will arrive soon in 2015 after a 90 day period that will establish a 'segregated airspace' to link Llanbedr with Aberporth.

A protest will be held at 12 noon Thursday, October 30th at Llanbedr and also at Aberporth. Photographs of people who have been killed by drones will be tied to the airfield perimeter fence near the entrance.

"We are worried that Wales is being used more and more as a practice ground for killing" said Anna Jane of Caernarfon. "With Epynt, Valley, Aberporth and now Llanbedr, the name of Wales will be associated with an intense training ground for killing techniques.

" With protests happening at both Aberporth and Llanbedr, the intention is announce that not all the people of Wales are happy with this. By showing the faces of people who have been killed, the hope is to create an awareness of the threat of death drones. Destroying life is their aim".

Cymdeithas y Cymod will also be holding a public meeting in Harlech at the end of November to launch a local campaign against the Llanbedr Death Drones.

In June 2014 the words 'No Death Drones' were painted on the Llanbedr runway.
