Giant "Gaza" artwork appears on Parkers Piece, Cambridge.

On Friday night (August 1st 2014), Cambridge activists created an enormous artwork on Parkers Piece to creatively express their disdain at the massacre taking place in Gaza.

A truly epic piece of artwork!
A truly epic piece of artwork!

How it looked from a higher vantage point (see how small the people are)

Even before the candles were lit it looked spectacular.

Once glowing, it was a poiganant sight to behold.

Quite a crowd was attracted to it...

...Some of whom stayed to help pack it away.

Beacons for Peace.
Beacons for Peace.

The piece comprised of dozens of candles inside paper bags spelling out the word "Gaza".

The artwork was so vast the only way you could view the whole thing was from on high (see photos), as it was about 150ft wide, end to end.

It drew quite a crowd of Friday night passers by, with many stopping not only to ask what was happening but also to engage in discussion about current events taking place in Israel, so on that level the piece achieved its objective.

It was also very much a community effort, with students and local activists coming together to make it happen.

The only sign of the police during the whole event was a couple of officers who, about an hour after it had all started, decided to take the short stroll from Parkside Police Station (only a couple of hundred metres away across the park), to find out what was happening.

They seemed more bemused by what they saw, so no arrests were made that night!

Meanwhile in Gaza the bloodletting continues...

Open flames

As a firefighter I would warn against actions of this kind. Multiple open flames at a time of drought and dry grass are very dangerous.

Plans for next friday (8th)

We're going back to Parker's Piece on Friday at 9 p.m. to fire rockets over the wall into Emmanuel College. Don't worry, they're just fireworks. And we've started digging some tunnels so you never know where we might pop up.

Identity Thief!

The Special Branch troller(?) and identity thief has shown their ugly face again above.

The previous comment has nothing to do with the author of piece, i.e. ME, so ignore it.

Perhaps they'll get the message in the end and stop wasting everyone's time, including their own.

Obvious

Of course they ignore it. Even most activists who scan IMC from time to time know the blame for the present war in Gaza lays at the feet of Hamas and it's desperate need for money. The Syrians have abandoned them, the Egyptians have abandoned them, the Qataris have abanded them. Even Iran now gives them less than 15% of what they once did (and crucially no more arms).

The only people who needed, planned and are prolonging this conflict are Hamas and they are losing, the called Israels bluff and it has badly backfired on them.

The antisemites of the UK might like to puff and shout but the British people in general could not give a fuck about the latest Palestinian attempt to pretend they still have a chance at driving the Jews out of the Middle East.
