Banning

As I understand it from a supporter the campaign had a recent influx of new support from people involved with the Brighton and Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign. Some of these people had visited Israel and the Occupied Territories and during those visits had been in confrontation with the Israeli Army.

Once they became involved with Smash EDO they requested that Jewishh people were excluded from the campaign and meetings because they found it difficult to interact with them because of their trauma after being in Israel. Despite objections a motion was passed and three individuals were excluded from Smash EDO organising committee and demonstrations. These three no longer work with Smash EDO but are working to the closure of the EDO factory in other ways.

Smash EDO have consistently refused to discuss this decision and because they have a prominent supporter on the moderation staff here all references have been edited out of the news site. These comments will likely have the same fate.

As predicted the comments where of course hidden by one of the mods who has been consistently protecting Smash EDO around this issue since it first came to light because as we all know anti-semitism doesn't exist if you hide evidence of it.

Reading that Schnews has jumped on the "it didn't happen" bandwagon will not surprise anyone. Seeing that they have tried to link it to the Tories smearing of the Smash EDO campaign is as lazy as their usual attempts at journalism.

Although I have no idea if this accusation is true however the statement,

"There is no membership structure or organising comittee for SMASH EDO so no-one can be de-barred from it. " seems surprising. Smash EDO is quite obviously 'organised' with a group of people who do it or does every event simply spontaneously occur ?

There is no anti-semitism in Smash EDO, there is only your highly dubious insistance that there is. EDO is just the latest target you have chosen. A quick glimpse through IMC's archive and the history of your illness is clear for all to see.

Go and get some help.

I don't say this as a bully, I say this because I recognise that you have a persistance which we can use in all sorts of ways. But your obsession with the moderation of this site, along with your obsession with anti-semitism in general is not doing you any good. You should already have worked out that Indymedia is troll-proof because of the people involved. You have been at this a number of years now and...well...you are still here having made no progress at all!

Allegations of antisemitism inside Smash EDO

These allegations of antisemitism have dogged Smash EDO ever since the involvement of the new members from PSC, I find it highly unlikely (as I know a few of them) that an actual decision was made to exclude individuals however I can see where a situation developed whereby they would feel uncomfortable remaining involved. Participation of Jewish people in campaigns that target (even tangentially ) Israel are always difficult as they can of course be viewed with dislike or suspicion by those who have carried out human rights work in Palestine.

Whatever the truth it is important we remain focused on the primary objective of seeing EDO and the entire world arms trade eliminated.

I assume you have confused me with someone else as the times I have contributed to this webpage I can count on one hand, all in the past six months which is when I started reading it. I have never (let me repeat so you are under no further confusion) never posted or commented on anti-semitism here with the exception of this thread. Smash EDO may well have thought they were doing what they did for the best of reasons, perhaps it even had the support of the majority however that does not excuse it or make it right.

I chose to comment because I have, in the university I work at seen similar instances where individuals have thought it appropriate to deal with anti-semitism by deciding to try and hide reference to it. I happen to believe that all forms of racism are best dealt with by confrontation and exposure. I stand by what I wrote before (copied below for reference as it was hidden) because I am in close contact with an individual who was until recently involved with the organisation of a number of anti EDO actions.

I had heard a few rumours but I didn't realise it was this bad - sort it out peeps - Smash EDO was a great campaign with some fantastic energy and mutual respect for everybody taking part - this all sounds very uncool.

I'm a freind of Wendy's and I have just pulled her to one side and she now understands what is happening. Initially she was very concerned at the rumours which don't actually exist outside of Indymedia but now she is OK about it.

In fact, Wendy has now signed up for membership of Smash EDO and being from a very rich family, she has pledged to make a substantial donation to the campaign.
