Get Fitwatching - Smash EDO June 4th

Fitwatch | 01.06.2012 21:37 | Smash EDO | Repression

As the summer arrives police forces around the country are stepping up their data gathering potential like never before .

The FIT teams will be out in force in Brighton this weekend, and the databases will be growing, especially following the green light given to the Domestic Extremism Unit by the High Court ruling this week. The police have a 'need', apparently, to stop the 'violent and criminal' Smash EDO mob, by gathering data and 'analysing the relationships within protest groups'.

So out come the FIT teams, recording who is doing what, talking to who, and going where. But only if we let them. And why the hell should we let them? After all, the only protection we get is the protection we give ourselves.

On June 4th, don't tolerate the FIT. Take placards, banners, umbrellas and protect yourself and others and others from cop cameras. Block the shot and shut them down. They are not welcome on our demos.

Btw, if you fancy knowing who's who, we have put together a new FW spotter card especially for the occasion. On this is a good selection of the cops that have been collecting 'intel' on Smash EDO over the last few years. See how many you can spot! And if you have your camera handy, new pics of the FIT are always welcome.

Thames Valley police protest unit

02.06.2012 10:25

Not too relevant here, but for reference Thames Valley Police have a unit of officers allocated to protests, the usual sweet-talking creeps to watch out for:

4979, Wilson
769, Howes
4998, Higa.

In addition, number 5617 is a body-worn camera operator.

sgt 2058 really nasty

02.06.2012 11:32

Sgt 2058 definately (if he is not now) used to be in Surrey Police (based in Guildford we think) - there are pictures of him with a Surrey police badge on the internet. He might have been transferred to Thames Valley especially as he seems to have an interest in the animal rights movement. He has gone out of area several times to head up Police raids in Hampshire and Dorset (in plain clothes) and is well known for stalking several female activists on demos (in one case following a young women into a shopping centre and then waiting outside the toilet for her all whilst making comments about her appearance). He has also threatened to have activists "done over".
He seems very concerned about having his name or picture taken/known and got very upset when AR activists found out where he was based.
The guy has issues.

Sgt 2058

02.06.2012 12:40

Just been looking for photos of Sgt 2058 and there is one of him on a AR demo September 2007 in Oxford (Thames Valley stangely enough)  http://arcops.wordpress.com/2007/09/03/cops-from-speak-march-1st-sept-2007/ he is identified then as Surrey (and you can just about make out the red area on his cap badge (surrey police are easy to spot as their cap badge is bright red). However on the banner at the top, he is the cop on the second to left, and appears not to have a Surrey Police cap badge then (quite possibly Thames Valley). We know for definate he was in Surrey Police based in Surrey in November 2007. However an educated guess would be that he was in Surrey Police (possibly working closely with Thames Valley) until late 2007 or sometime 2008 the picture on the banner would have been taken around then too.
