Bring the movement back to life

AR Struggle! | 19.12.2011 18:09 | Stop Sequani Animal Testing | Animal Liberation

A plea for smaller groups to come together and put an end to the murder!

This is a call for Stop Sequani Animal Testing to come back to life and start making regular visits to the lab, I believe that the movement is starting to be split up nationally and I think we need to start getting back to how it was a few years back! Constant demos either that of noise demos, picketing or marches....after a bit of time and patience I think we can become a strong force, lets get back on to the streets and let them know that our voices will continue to haunt them until they stop vivisection all over the UK! Let us give the voiceless a voice once again, have one final push towards the abolition of vivisection labs. We should target all suppliers of both animals and equipment, but most importantly, the labs themselves! It will be extremely sad to see the movement die out, and this is a plead for it to get back up to full strength. Direct action = Direct results. They’re getting away with murder and I don’t think we give smaller labs like Sequani the grief they deserve, after all they are the ones who will be committing worse crimes!

NAVA success

Stop Sequani Animal Testing was a good idea but it has failed so instead of trying to resurrect it why not get involved in a campaign that is having real success . NAVA in the past three months has been instrumental in :

SRCL Campaign
LAN Campaign
Anti-Vivisectionists March on Downing Street.

Only three days ago dozens of NAVA activists protested at Harlan Interfauna, Wyton as part of the campaign to close Britain's last beagle farm.

All of this in the past three months while Stop Sequani has done nothing for over a year and SHAC is imploding we have been saving animals lives and building a mass country wide organisation.

Other success stories include
Airlines & Ferries
One of NAVA's major campaigns is to change the policies of airlines and ferry companies with regards to transporting laboratory animals, through public boycott and pressure. We have been able to influence decision makers within companies across the globe and actively promote industry practice deferring the shipping of research animals.

AstraZeneca Primate Lab
Alderley Park in Cheshire is home to one of the UK's largest animal research facilities – AstraZeneca. Through the tactical campaign against importing monkeys through Manchester International Airport, we were able to secure the closure of primate research facilities within the laboratories.

Harlan Laboratories - Hillcrest
Through a harrowing exposé of serious animal welfare concerns, we were able to bring the plight of beagle dogs being bred for research to the British public's attention. Articles were featured in several national newspapers, coupled with the public taking action at local protests and marches, bringing the company's claims of high standards into disrepute. NAVA learnt from a number of sources that the beagle units at Hillcrest Farm were due for a scheduled closure following the investigation and protests.

Highgate Farm – Willingham
Information passed onto NAVA revealed laboratories within Cambridgeshire purchasing chickens for use in agricultural and behavioural studies from the 'random source supplier' Highgate Farm in Willingham. Without knowledge of the farm's owners, birds were purchased on the pretence that they were to be kept as pets. Following this being brought to the attention of the owners at a peaceful protest at the site, we were assured that this would not happen in the future.

Manchester International Airport
For nearly a decade Manchester International Airport acted as the main gateway for laboratory animal transport into, and out of, Britain. NAVA headed a campaign of internal and external pressure in order to advocate an update on policy in line with that of many others within the transportation industry. As a result airlines, ground handlers, customs clearance agents, veterinarians and others within the aviation sector based at MIA refused to be involved in the trade. Shipments of animals were stopped through a consorted effort of co-operation between parties.

Marshall BioResources
In April 2011, Marshall BioResources announced plans to construct a farm effectively factory farming beagles on a large scale for use in laboratories. A campaign was launched in collaboration with local residents within the East Riding of Yorkshire, raising public awareness and gathering objections. As a result, we hit the headlines on an almost daily basis and peaceful demonstrations were held within the area, resulting in the local council refusing permission for the facility.

Port of Dover
A NAVA campaign revealed primates, beagles and other animals being routinely transported through the Port of Dover for experimental laboratories in the UK and Europe. Unmarked vehicles delivered animals on a weekly basis to be shipped on passenger ferries. With the assistance of those operating through the docks and calls for a public boycott of those involved, shipments were brought to an end.

Disgusting self promotion

20.12.2011 09:55

I find this style of campaigning particularly repulsive:

"Only three days ago dozens of NAVA activists protested at Harlan
Interfauna, Wyton as part of the campaign to close Britain's last beagle
farm.

All of this in the past three months while Stop Sequani has done nothing
for over a year and SHAC is imploding we have been saving animals lives
and building a mass country wide organisation."

By all means promote your campaign, but to do so at the expense of other
campaigns is repulsive and would lose you support.

Disgusting self promotion OR what is best for the animals ?

20.12.2011 10:33

Although my initial reaction was to agree with 'ftp' and his/her comments above about the way NAVA promotes itself I feel that now I have given it some thought I have changed my mind.

NAVA as a group certainly seems to be achieving success and saving animal lives while other organisations are not. This must be the point we focus on, what will save the most animal lives, what will get them out of the hell that is their life for many. Stop Sequani and SHAC have been great campaigns and they have achieved much but not even the most optimistic activist thinks that either Sequani or Hunntington Life Sciences are going to close now - the government has made clear that will never happen so what is the point of keeping on with the campaigns ? NAVA deserves support because it is working, other campaigns do not because they are not.

Taking my dog for a walk now

The government says...

20.12.2011 11:16

"the government has made clear that will never happen so what is the point of keeping on with the campaigns ?"

Thinking like that and we'd still have slavery, women wouldn't have the vote and Apartheid South Africa would still exist.

Unless NAVA has managed to stop all vivisection then there clearly is a place for other campaigns - especially as NAVA has committed itself to "lawful and professional campaigns"

They also claim that "we bring the subject of vivisection into the public eye and create debate on the matter in order to achieve change"

and they've definitely failed at that...

pull the dog by the other leg

You are misinterpreting what I said

20.12.2011 12:22

"Thinking like that and we'd still have slavery, women wouldn't have the vote and Apartheid South Africa would still exist"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We would only still have those things if campaigning had stopped which it did not however it did evolve and change with new tactics being developed.

What I am suggesting is not to stop the campaigning about Animal abuse but rather to recognise that campaigns like SHAC and Stop Seguani have failed while NAVA is succeeding.

We all know there are a limited number of us with a limited amount of time and resources so why not concentrate that where it will do the most good ?

As a practical example from my own upbringing in South Africa I can say that the bombing campaign the ANC used was very counter productive and did nothing to end Apartheid while the disinvestment encouragement was very effective. The ANC learnt from the failure of what today might be called 'Direct Action' and changed their tactics - they prevailed.

Back from taking the dog for a walk

"lawful and professional campaigns" "save animals"

20.12.2011 12:38

Gatway to Hell is a SHAC campaign.....

B&K has been going for many years and still.....

Now the shift has gone, again, to the old White Rose Enviromental....

At the time the Gatway campaign got off it's feet activists from the north failed to turn up and support it so it died on it's feet, but much was done by a few SHAC campaigners all the same.

Grassroots AR campaigns have lost all direction since the men in black set about targeting key activists in the movement and now we are at the point where we have many in the clink or subject to crass "control orders" to keep them away from AR campaigning.

The AR movement is not going to move forward because there isn't anyone worth stepping into the shoes of people like Mel or Greg who were the real force for "getting things done."

I don't see any animals saved by this campaign. All you do is move the problem around, one company breaks away and another steps in their place...

Certain people within the movement are also very good at turning on other AR activists. It's just a way to get people out of the way who they see as a threat to their progression in the movement.

Shameful.

The sweet smell of pacifist bullshit

And no doubt you can say as a woman that universal suffrage came about through "lawful and professional campaigns" only....

"Traditional lobbying and petitioning were a mainstay of NWP members, but these activities were supplemented by other more public actions–including parades, pageants, street speaking, and demonstrations. The party eventually realized that it needed to escalate its pressure and adopt even more aggressive tactics. Most important among these was picketing the White House over many months, leading to the arrest and imprisonment of many suffragists.

The willingness of NWP pickets to be arrested, their campaign for recognition as political prisoners rather than as criminals, and their acts of civil disobedience in jail shocked the nation and brought attention and support to their cause. Through constant agitation, the NWP effectively compelled President Wilson to support a federal woman suffrage amendment. Similar pressure on national and state legislators led to the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920."

I hope the more old-fashioned suffragists will stand by them. In my opinion, far from having injured the movement, [the Suffragettes] have done more during the last 12 months to bring it within the region of practical politics than we have been able to accomplish in the same number of years.
Mrs Millicent Fawcett, leader of the NUWSS, writing in 1906

As for Apartheid:

By the 1980s there was continuous interplay between violent and non-violent action, and this interplay was a notable feature of the rebellion against apartheid from 1983 until South Africa's transition to democracy in 1994.[1]
No self-respecting South African would pretend that the internal resistance had no effect on the Apartheid regime.....

Would they?

Now lets remind ourselves that you want all eggs put into the self-important self declared 'good protester' law abiding NAVA basket.

Re: Sigh

"Stop it with the underhand accusations, the poster was trying to make clear that NAVA is having success while other campaigns have not."

Heres what the poster ACTUALLY said:

"NAVA deserves support because it is working, other campaigns do not because they are not."

Pretty damned unambiguous however you wish to read it.

"Having some experience of NAVA and the people involved with it I am well aware of why they must declare themselves 'law abiding' in the current oppressive police monitoring of all AR organisations."

So, why don't they campaign on the basis of what they've done, instead of attacking campaigns who use other tactics and stand up to the oppressive police tactics at the same time?

It was a sigh, a cry, a hungry kiss

bullshit

20.12.2011 14:15

Reads like a cop post and plenty of the comments do so too, especially those claiming to be NAVA making themselves out to not give a flying fuck about animals imprisoned at sequani deathcamp.

20.12.2011 18:22

@Until all are free I see nava are pretty much ostracised throughout the AR scene? Personally I see the hunt saboteurs assoc as the most active, daring and successful part of the liberation movement.

corrected

Fully agree

21.12.2011 11:05

"Personally I see the hunt saboteurs assoc as the most active, daring and successful part of the liberation movement."

I could not agree more, sabbing achieves what we are all seeking which is protection and ultimate liberation of animals. Each week we help foxes escape and that I think is a greater achievement than another pointless demo outside of a supplier to HLS who stopped listening to us years ago.

I know that sabbing is not for everyone and some are intimidated by the physical confrontation required to prevent fox deaths but for anyone that is reasonably young and fit it really is the best you can do to protect animals.

Sab

I smell more BS here ...

22.12.2011 10:09

Oh look another post which has multiple posts pretending to be different people yet actually the same person having a conversation with themselves. All to try to make AR look like it's constantly arguing. When in fact AR is the most unified of all.

What a load of BS some of the posts in this thread are.

These threads are started by the same sad individual who is not animal rights but claims to e doing "disruption operations", "false flag". Idiot thinks they are running an "information war" against activists.

The fact is that UK AR is still having a good effect. People are still out there doing what they do best. It's just people publicise it all less now to prevent being found out. Many local groups are running stalls educating the public, sabs are still out in the field and many liberations are still taking place. More and more are becoming vegan and more and more are becomign animal advocates.

A note to those who employed this idiot: you are wasting your money. This idiot has just read "Churchills Wizzards" and thinks they are now an expert in deception.

Oh Dear

Pitiable attempt to create divisions

22.12.2011 12:33

Couldn't agree more with the last comment.

As a NAVA supporter I can assure the sad individual who posted most of the above that NAVA supporters, SHAC supporters and SSAT supporters are pretty much the same bunch of people. The divisions you are trying to create are only in your head you saddo.

Meanwhile we are carrying on opposing all vivisection and supporting all grass roots campaigns that further this aim.
