PCS joins J30 strike

phil | 17.06.2011 09:34 | J30 Strike | Public sector cuts

The Public & Commercial Services Union has voted to join the J30 strike, bringing the total number of striking workers up to 750,000. This union is for civil servants including court staff and immigration officers.

The government has wasted no time attacking the strikers, pointing to the low ballot turnout to discredit the result. Hilarious they never manage to point the same finger at low turnouts in general elections.

Personally I'm caught - the coalition to oppose austerity is great and having three quarters of a million people out striking simultaneously will be fantastic. But I'm revolted by the idea that our actions will serve to increase pay conditions for those who professionally lock up and deport our comrades, and a brief look at their strike history suggests they'd scoff at the idea of solidarity strikes in support of other workers' struggles.

I guess these things are never perfect. Bring on J30!!

The decision to support the anti-cuts strike.

The decision to support the anti-cuts strike is a tactical not a philosophical one. I aim to put the establishment under pressure to maximise expenditure whilst minimising it's income. But to demoralise it's staff is an equally valid tactic to hasten the demise of the state.

Middle class protest..

June 30 is a middle class middle England protest by authoritians who couldn`t give a toss about workers rights and struggles, they`re self intrested only worried about thier pensions. The PCS approached Direct Action groups to get involved so if/when it kicks off the students & Anarchists will get the blame for hijacking it.As Phil points out, these are people who lock up asylum seekers, sanction and persecute job seekers and are lackeys of the state collecting peoples taxes. What offers of Solidarity are the PCS offering? No to workfare? No! Refusing to incarcerate people because of nationality/colour? No! They`re using the libertarian left to do thier dirty work and will be Judases when the proverbal hits the fan. It`s like coming out in solidarity with the police!!

Hmmmmmm

I suspect the middle class teachers and PCS will take the day off and go shopping, adding to the economy while students and anarchists will spend hours in parliament sq, kettled.
Lining the police`s pockets with overtime, an excuse to tighten anti strike laws and the unions will desert you!
