Protest against LIb Dem Conference Organisers - Police surveillance actions

Resist! | 07.03.2011 23:11 | Public sector cuts | Repression | Sheffield

Overt surveillance measures are being used to intimidate activists organising against the Sheffield Libdem conference.

Activists organising against the Libdem conference in Sheffield, 11-13th March, are reporting

* Police cars parked outside their homes watching them leeve to travel to work or to take children to school
* Being followed and met outside of organising meetings
* Plain and uniformed officers approaching activists and greeting them by name.

Don't worry though, those who queued to up to vote Nick Clegg into Parliament will be queuing up to blockade him from his conference.

Plenty is still planned.

Action is the best defence

Chronicle, record, photograph and publish - strike at their weaknesses: their need for secrecy and not to have their actions and faces publicly exposed. There is much more strength in being open and aware and mutually supporting each other. They want to breed suspicion, fear and especially paranoia, because that is all about making activists too fearful to be effective. Take strength in knowing that they are worried.

ActivistSecurity is happy to listen and advise if needed.

I agree, not with Nick but with Activistsecurity.

The police are trying to intimidate people from taking action. Don't let them do that. Take a leaf out of the Fitwatch book  http://www.fitwatch.org.uk/

Without giving them any more information than they already have, document their activities, photograph and film them. Gather all the information you can on these bullies and publicise it far and wide. Put it on spotter sheets and give them copies after taking precautions to prevent them gathering fingerprints or DNA from the sheets. Put it on the web. We know from Fitwatch trials that the police claim to feel intimidated by this.
