Censorship and Northern indymedia

Some prole or other | 16.12.2010 23:52 | Liverpool | Sheffield

Censorship is suppression of speech or other communication which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, or inconvenient to the general body of people as determined by a government, media outlet, or other controlling body.

In this case censorship determined by a supposed independent media outlet. Supposedly part of IMC. I have no idea who "Northern indymedia" are or even why they exist when there are other local and active IMC's such as Manchester, Liverpool and Sheffield that actively represent areas of Northern England.

Is this the idea of some southerners who think they know better than those of us living upwards of London?

Or is it just some saddo removing posts and comments when it doesn't suit them?

Whatever it is I'd like to understand how comments from locals on local issues can be removed without comment.

I was a part of northern

17.12.2010 00:48

Hello,

I was a part of northern but left due to differences. There was a general opinion amongst northern members that 'comments sections' and 'discussion' would not be allowed as this added to the need for moderation. I for one argued that discussion was needed and suggested that the functionality be implemented. Alas my ideas were blocked and ignored at every turn. So, I decided to leave northern.

However, I don't know what the comment is you are referring to so its hard to pass judgement. Northern are very strict on some matters, such as being against the promotion of violence (which I agree with).
