People are saying the police let them trash the place a bit for the media, they had the riot squads waiting in vans just around the corner, but waited for the press to get their pictures before they deployed them.
The police succeeded in giving the protests a violent image in the media, to justify heavy handed tactics in the next protest. The media's vilification and twisted portrayals of these protests has been scandalous.
