Background

The family of Jay Abatan are trying to find witnesses to the vicious attack that left him with
severe head injuries. Following 5 days in intensive care, Jay Abatan lost his fight for life.
No one has been brought to justice for his killing.

Jay Abatan, 42, an accountant with Price Waterhouse Coopers, and father of 2 small
children, was beaten to death by a group of white males in the street in Brighton in January
1999. He was of mixed race. He had been celebrating a friend's birthday. His brother,
Michael Olatunde Abatan and friend Lloyd Jeffers were also attacked and assaulted. Tunde
was assaulted whilst he tried to rescusitate his brother.

Two men were charged with manslaughter but the charges were dropped.

The family believe the attack was racially motivated and that the crime was investigated
differently because the victims were black and the perpetrators were white.
