Tate Gallery and its role in State Surveilance

On a recent visit to the Tate gallery Liverpool I was asked my name and address in order to receive my 'free' admission.
The 'Liverpool Bienial' is currently ongoing in Liverpool- at the Tate Liverpool among other places.
On visiting the Tate I was asked my name and address in order to recieve a 'free' entry ticket.
When I asked why my name and address were necessary i was told- 'just to record who is visiting', when I refused I was refused entry- to this 'free' state sponsored event/institution.
I complained and eventually was allowed entry after giving just my post code- this was dutifully entered into the database by the obedient bureaucrat!
