Calais hunger strike suspended

no borders | 01.10.2009 23:09 | Migration

Thursday 1st OCTOBER - 10PM

The beginning of a hungerstrike in Calais was announced on Wed. 30th of
September. The aim was to demand cooperation between European States to
obtain real possibilities for seeking asylum. The hungerstrikers, gathered
in Parc Saint Pierre in Calais town center, were quickly evicted from
there by police forces. Three of them were arrested that night, the others
narrowly escaping arrest.

Facing this repression and the difficulties of organizing such a movement
whilst living on the streets, they decided to suspend their hunger strike.
Despite this, many migrants have decided to organize to get their rights,
not only by challenging laws but also how they are applied.

The struggle goes on for freedom of movement!

Not much of a hunger strike then was it? Two days - pathetic. Their lack of resilience shows what they are; no-politicised chancers who want an easy time in Britain 'cos it's too hot/cold/dusty back home and they don't want to work for a living....two days then off to MacDonalds..

Bordering on stupid

You haven't the faintest fucking idea what you're talking about. I actually know some of them personally and they are warm, generous, and most definitely political. I'm not gonna waste time on a nothing like you trying to show that they're worthy/deserving of our support.

Seriously think about it for a moment though - what fucking right do you have, sitting comfortably in front of your computer screen, to make that kind of judgement? Fuck off and die

thats not very good. People have been commenting on things for thousands of years. These migrants do seem to think they need a right to do things. So, it should stand that people don't need a right to comment on them.

And what are these migrants going to do in the UK?

Work? They aren't allowed to. And they are unlikely to have the correct qualifications to get a job in a market where fully qualified graduates struggle to find work if they were.

Work illegally?
For less money thus uncutting existing workers. And not pay taxes like the rest of us have to?
It doesn't really sell it to me as being of an advantage to the current residents of the UK

Live on benefits?
Apparently not. Because i've been told that would never happen and is just rightwing propaganda

Live on nothing?
OK. So basically a percentage of them will turn to crime. Again, no advantage to us.

Anyway, whats wrong with france? Whats so amazing about the UK?
There must be some huge incentive to come here to go on hunger strike.
