Updated action ideas to support Calais migrants

Information from activists on the ground in Calais points to the police preparing to destroy some or many of the ‘jungles’ housing around 1,800 migrants in Calais, this Monday 20th July or Tuesday 21st July. These ‘jungles’ are where people who have travelled across Europe wait in makeshift shelters, with little food or medical assistance, for their nightly attempts to get onto lorries making the crossing to the UK. Many of the migrants will be unaware of this threat.

We are calling for these targets as the UK Border starts in Calais – both the French and British states are implicitly involved in any attacks (legal or otherwise) that are launched against migrants in Calais. As the burning and destruction of the migrant camp at Patras in Greece shows, EU states now have little to fear in their attacks against migrants, as popular support for the far-right in the European elections shows. We need to show them otherwise. Of course, any other direct action is welcomed.

...let's get a few hundred masked up people with no consistent ideology and very little understanding of the migrants' situations, to descend on calais for a week or so, attracting thousands of police to come and evict/arrest/abuse etc as many migrants as they can, achieve nothing in the process then go back to Surrey or wherever feeling self righteous...

...on the actions of people who don't sit around on their arses traducing others people's actions. Many of the people involved in this campaign either live in Calais and towns around or have spent a lot of time in Calais talking to the migrants there and in all the towns up and down the coast and further back towards Lille. We are in constant contact with all the organisations like Belle Etoile, Salam, Terre d'Errance, C'Sur, etc. that have been having daily contact with the migrants for the past decade. And I think we know far more about the migrants' situations than some ignorant deskjockey.

The destruction of the Jungles was flagged up well in advance of the Calais No Border Camp and the presence of the Camp and the on-going activities in and around Calais by activists from both sides of the Channel is not the factor that is attracting "thousands of police to come and evict/arrest/abuse etc as many migrants as they can." In fact the eviction/arrests/abuse of migrants decreased significantly whilst the Camp was in Calais.

The only person displaying self-righteousness here is you Fiddle.
