In June of 2009, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security denied respected musical artist, publisher and Weslh language activist Arfon Gwilym entry into the United States to perform at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington. D.C. (info:

Arfon Gwilym is a peaceful man who engaged in non-violent protest decades ago to resist the obliteration of his people's culture.
He poses no threat whatsoever to the security of the United States. Furthermore, the American people are being denied the educational and cultural benefits which this important exponent of Welsh culture has to offer.

The Welsh folk singer and language activist Arfon Gwilym [BWAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!] has been forced to cancel an appearance at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington after he was denied a visa by US officials. Gwilym is a prominent campaigner for the preservation of the Welsh language. He was denied the visa because he has been arrested several times while campaigning for bilingual road signs in Wales and for a Welsh-language television channel.
