I don't get this

If a poster's message is repellent to people they won't vote for that party.
And if it isn't repellent why deface it?
Poster defacement is a form of censorship. Those who practice it are censors, elitists and fascists.
Leave the posters as they are. Let people make up their own minds about who to vote for.

Unfortunately they forgot the contract:

9.1 You agree to fully indemnify Us in respect of all liabilities, damages, claims, actions, expenses, demands or costs incurred by Us due to your misuse of the Site or any breach by You of Our Terms and Conditions.

Systematic lies get caught out. Lies as election policy ensure that the date of Bankruptcy draws ever closer. Poor Nick. Done over again by not reading the small print. Twenty Grand Please.

armed with bits of anti-fascist billboards, they will seek and destroy anyone who doesn't agree with them,
the BNP will win the general election, demanded by the people angry at this evil form of direct action.
everyone who isn't white, blonde haired, blue eyed and inbred will be gassed.
or not...
maybe its only a billboard and by the looks the board wasn't even physical damaged.
who knows maybe the criminal mastermind behind this is a team of high pressure and rain?
end of the day, not end of the world.
not going to massively impact the current state of freedom of speech in the uk.

Fools who talk of censorship
27.05.2009 18:58
I would think that is pretty obvious - we draw the line so that people have the freedom of speech.
People like you have always tried to control and manipulate through the use of censorship to gain power for their respective group. I'm for democracy --- thats the one where anyone can have their say.
And what on earth has censorship got to do with child molestation?
Have you heard of Karl Pilkington? Are you Karl? You are just talking nonsense

Indymedia isn't a free-for-all, it's an alternative to mainstream statist views
27.05.2009 22:49
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/static/mission.html
"Inherent in the mainstream corporate media is a strong bias towards Capitalism's power structures, and it is an important tool in propagating these structures around the globe. While the mainstream media conceal their manifold biases and alignments, we clearly state our position. Indymedia UK does not attempt to take an objective and impartial standpoint: Indymedia UK clearly states its subjectivity."
Censorship is only a problem when it is done by a powerful ruling elite. If racists or authoritarians want to spread their poison they have a million other websites to do it, they can't expect Indymedia to help them do it.

The article is talking "censoring BNP's message on billboards"
The comments are discussing if the censorship of the BNP is right or wrong and how this relates to the fundamental right of "freedom of speech."
Neither has anything to do with censorship policies on Indymedia.

All billboards deface our country, they are a means for rich arrogant people and organistations to spread damaging thoughts that people are too smart to spread by word of mouth. All defacement is art.
It isn't enough just to deface a BNP billboard, the billboard company won't learn anything from that. BNP billboards should be turned into firewood.

I for one think it important that the BNP have freedom of speech. I don't agree with using physical violence against their stalls or marches, if they are peaceful. But advertising is privileged speech, it's an affront that says "we can afford to shove our message in your face, in your space". The BNP are crypto fascist, would-be oppressors, who have no right to privileged speech. All but the most bland messages are offensive as advertising to someone in some way, but the point is, this kind of message and symbolism is gratuitously offensive. Its just fucking horribly oppressive, and it needs to be challenged to preserve the self respect and sanity of the working class.
Scouting these things out sounds like a great idea.

nobody monitors or bothers to get unwanted billboards taken down, our local council spends its time cleaning of graffiti while the police boast of graffiti artists arrested.
its not illegal to deface an illegal billboard at all.
check with the planning dept of your local council to find out which billboards are legal...

my comment still stands regarding censorship
30.05.2009 00:01
I was reading several stories and comments on Indymedia recently where fascists were trolling and complaining of being censored by Indymedia, so maybe I got mixed up and this one wasn't the most pertinent for my reply. Or maybe their posts have since been hidden. Are fascist posts ever deleted outright or only ever just hidden?
Either way, I think the general point still stands, that Indymedia is for people who oppose hierarchy and not a general open house for any racist or authoritarian to spout their views.
And regarding the "censorship" of attacking billboards, I think you have to take into account the power imbalance. If the government censors an individual, that is bad. If an individual attacks the "speech" of ruling politicians or businesses, that is good.
The rich have massive control of the media to attempt to brainwash people into toeing the line, so anything to redress the balance is a good thing. And the BNP may not be the ruling elite at the moment, but they certainly want to be, so anything to stop them is welcome. If you think Labour or Conservatives are authoritarian shitbags (they are) the BNP will be ten times worse.
