bring a kettle to the anti police violence demo

teas maid | 09.04.2009 14:39

a symbol speaks a thousand words and reminds media and police that is was kettling that killed ian tomlinson

Ian Tomlinson died because he and many others were contained in a kettle and no one is allowed out of a kettle no matter how many times they ask. Shoving, pushing and hitting are all police responses to people who get too close to a kettle line. I\an Tomlinson wasn't the only person who was abused by the police tactics on April 1st

Bringing a kettle to the anti violence demo will speak volumes to the media who love images and visual protests. The sight of hundreds or thousands of people with kettles for the Met will be just the kind of protest that tv media will love to show on its evening broadcasts.

The practice of kettling, contrary to the opinions of the law lords is uncivil and antidemocratic. Treating citizens as objects, denying them human necessities of food, water and toilet facilities. If our system wants to pose as democratic and its members as citizens it needs to rethink the way it treats demonstrators exercising their democratic rights

Say No to kettling and to police violence
bring a kettle to the protest

What Demo ?

You speak as if everyone is expected to know what demo you are referring to. I have done a quick search and have found nothing. Mind you it is hard when the search terms are police violence and demo ;P
Please give details like where and when for example.

keep facts straight

Ian Tomlinson died outside of the police kettle at bank and he was hit with a baton and pushed - maybe we should bring toy police batons along with kettles? ;)

no more symbols/liberal appeals, how about some strategies & tactics

HANG ON.

REALITY CHECK

Some of the stuff I'm reading on Indymedia is amazing (& sad).

Maybe we should actually think about and do some tactics that stop kettles forming and can break them once in place, rather than appealing to the liberal media/system that have already said it's OK to kettle & beat people!

Symbols? Cymbals might be more useful!

avoiding kettles

i have always thought that a badminton net, or similar, might be useful. easily rolled up and hidden in e.g. a banner, easily deployed and wrapped around approaching/encroaching persons, meaning only two people have to dodge batons whilst the rest of a group can go around the offending human detritus. Probably extra effective if they have long-handled sticks in their hands, or fiddly equipment stuck aroung their clothing.

Point them out

I would like to see if members of the Forward Intelligence Team (FIT) Turn up to this gathering
With so many of them appearing in the video footage of the deceased assault will they have the nerve to show up?
If you do see any of them around on the day make your feelings known to them also make sure that you overtly point them out and physically point at them so they can be brought to the knowledge of everyone.
