Smashing the war machine - Tescos in Whitechapel attacked

resist to exist | 15.01.2009 17:31 | Anti-militarism | Palestine | Terror War | World

The Tescos Metro on Commercial Road has had all it's windows smashed. While there was no apparent clue left to suggest a motive for the attack, Tesco sells many Israeli products from illegally occupied land.

This attack follows a similar attack on a Starbucks in Whitechapel which also had its plate glass windows smashed and in a later and probably related attack had a small fire set inside the premises.

Mainstream media have been reporting a number of attacks which they attribute as being anti-semite. While attacks on random jews or synagogs are obviously anti-semite in nature, the targeting of zionist organisations and their collaborators should not simply be passed off as racist in this way.

This week the Zionist PR firm Bicom based in Oxford Street was targeted by protesters and many other Zionist organisations and enabling companies are also being targeted or boycotted.

Wow you should get some kind of award for using the word attack the most times in one sentence!

No seriously, thanks for the report. I suspect this is going on a lot around the country and probably isn't getting much visibility beyond local press. Pulling it all together would be useful to see the scale of the anger and how that is translating in action of whatever sort. As you say, the mainstream media is unhelpfully just lumping things together as jew bashing.

'racist incident'

15.01.2009 18:20

It's racist to suggest all Jews support the Gaza massacre.

It's not racist to suggest Tesco supports the Zionists carrying it out.

is it?

15.01.2009 19:02

is it racist to say 'kill jews'? This was the slogan, according to the East London Advertiser, that was spraypainted on the Tesco.

which non-racist racist attack was this then?

15.01.2009 19:03

Was this the same non-racist attack which involved the Tescos having "kill the jews" graffitied on it, or the one where a truck driver was bricked and needed seven stitches?

Or was this just a non-racist attack where a company that was started / owned by a Jewish person is attacked because the owner is / was Jewish?

Let's see if I understand your logic

You say it's not "anti-Jewish" because not intended to be attacking ALL Jews, just those that won't give up supporting their own tribal interests.

Just looks sort of like "all Jews" because 90+% of them support their tribe. They can escape being attacked by you if they support the other side.

'kill all jews', anti-semetic graffiti and physical attacks on people

That what Indymedia is promoting on the newswire these days?

Firebombed Starbucks in Whitechapel this morning
By Mike Brooke

A FIRE bomb was hurled into the premises of a cafe and coffee bar in London’s East End in the early hours of this morning.

It was one of a series of ‘hate’ incidents in Whitechapel which have included anti-Semitic graffiti, believed to be linked to protests over Israel’s operations in Gaza.

The thugs hurled the petrol bomb through the front glass door of Starbucks in Whitechapel Road, 300 yards from Brick Lane, at 1am.

The manager was trapped in the office at the back and saw the intruders smashing their way into the premises on the CCTV and had to stay hidden.

A senior fire brigade officer told the East London Advertiser: “The manager feared for his safety and kept out of sight when the firebomb was hurled.

“Then he managed to get out through the fire escape at the back to raise the alarm.”

The fire damaged the carpet, tables and several glass panels.

But firefighters managed to prevent flames spreading to the rest of the building.

Police forensic experts later sealed off the cafe. The CCTV footage was also being examined in the hunt for the fire-bombers.

No-one was hurt in the attack and there were no customers in the premises which had already closed for the night.

Scotland Yard said one line of inquiry was that it was “racially motivated” following the fighting in Gaza.

Starbucks, whose American chief executive Howard Schultz is Jewish, confirmed the attack in a statement today, saying none of its staff or customers were affected and they we’re co-operating with the investigations.

Just four hours earlier, a gang of youths hurled a brick at a Tesco delivery van half-a-mile away, then attacked the driver as he drove through Canon Street Road. The 45-year-old driver was later treated for a head injury and needed seven stitches.

Cops said the youths were Asian, who were wearing dark tops and may have been seen outside a fast food restaurant earlier.

The new Tesco Metro supermarket in Stepney’s Commercial Road was targeted at the weekend when several windows were smashed and the words ‘kill Jews’ was daubed in paint.

The same slogan was daubed on the wall of a children’s playground on Whitechapel’s Chicksand housing estate last week.

Good work

All companies or individuals who support the slaughter of children, the shooting of medics, the bombings of hospitals, WP fired into aid compounds - all of these should be attacked physically.

Is this a left wing web site?

15.01.2009 19:52

I am dissapointed but not suprised that this action and rhetoric is apparent in the left scene in the UK. Where are the people who can see past this Us vs Them mentality that drives the kind of conflict and destruction to human life that we are witnessing in Palestine?

No to anti-semitism, No to racism! No to Israeli and Palestinian nationalism!

attacking pro-Israel businesses in antisemitic

15.01.2009 20:07

attacking for instance a company owned by Germans, like Heckler and Koch, any one who produces or delivers military or other goods to or from Israel, or occupying the offices of a pro-Israel media op, or blockading lorries to boats with military shipments to Israel, even "peace"-protests against Israel ARE in fact antisemitic, coze that´s what being anti-Israel is.

Regardless of the form of action, it´s the content of your action that counts.

Ure doing it coze U hate jews!

Stay at home and read a book.

You are walking down a street and you see a gang shooting up a schoolyard full of children.

Do you
a) Try to see both sides of the story - after all the children may have provoked the gang
or
b) Try to save the lives of the kids anyway you can

If you answer a) then you are a fascist
If you answer b) then you are an anarchist

Proof of 'Kill Jews'?

15.01.2009 20:09

If the damage was accompanied by the words 'Kills Jews' then it's obviously a rascist attack. I'm sorry, but it's idiotic to argue any other way.If you really believe that it's not rascist, you are a rascist, and if you believe it is, but are defending it, you should say so.

HOWEVER, the obvious question to me is: is there any proof? Sure, the local paper says that this was written (informed, no doubt, by some moral and upright police officers) but is there any actual proof, such a photograph? It would completely believable that the police would lie about this in order to discredit the action.

Just wondering.

I am currently wearing a home-made Leonard Cohen Tshirt. My favourite comdedian is currently Sarah Silverman, although I still like Woody Allens work. I have read the Jewish scriptures and considered going to an Israel Kibbutz when my friends went as teenagers. Unlike most people posting here, I have lost a friend to a Palestinian suicide bomber.

Yet now I oppose the state of Israel and call for it to be abolished because I've been paying attention to events there. Israel has become a Nazi state as surely as Hitlers state was. Same tactics, same lies. The term anti-semitic referring to Jews only is a Nazi term so you call me that if you want, you use any Nazi terminology you want to describe me. If someone starts trying to 'kill all Jews' it'll be folk like me stopping them, but destroying the businesses which support this slaughter, that is a good and just act.
