the future for the site
the future for the site

The whole area is now ready for open cast working and coal extraction is likely to begin shortly by UK Coal.

Protesters were told that the area is still under a court order and that entering the site is arrestable (no longer civil trespass) but this didn't stop the protesters who went on anyway to have their picnic.

This was rudely interrupted as a person from the high court tried to get them to move, and seized the Veggies catering trolley and escorted some protesters off.

The police looked on in a hungry manner at the protests organisation to have a picnic with good healthy food.

After they went up to the entrance of what used to be Prospect farm aka Bodge House, now demolished.

The coal extraction is about to start according to locals

No New Coal

why so many FIT Cops there? perhaps each county send one.
seems a lot of police,
Could some one correct me on this one, did any one get a letter stating do not go to the site, and if you do you will be breaking the law.
so its ok to burn coal, and ruin the landscape,is that not wrong.

Crikey!

Have the police not got anything better to do in Derby than gatecrash a picnic?

Once again we are witnesses to the hypocricy of Government who are trying to put a bill through to cut greenhouse-gas emissions by 80% by 2050 meanwhile the opencast diggers are set loose in Derby?

Now that's what I call progress! Hmmm...

it just goes to show that the useless coppers of derbyshire have nothing better to do than work in conjunction with big business(uk coal).they couldnt catch a proper criminal if they walked into one .why so many coppers anyway???? overkill or what.

correction & legal info + coal extraction started

Coal extraction has started on site, and a while ago. Today a couple of handfuls of Earth First!ers went there, unannounced and therefore without loads of police, evidence gatherers or bailiffs, and stopped work.

You were told that under Section 10 of the Criminal Law Act, there was a high court order and you had to leave the land or be arrested. They were blagging you. Look up that section, and you'll find it only covers premises, and is about occupiers, which if you're going for a picnic or for a protest, you're not intending to occupy anything, and the premises that the order is attached to have been bulldozed, so it no longer applies. The police will try anything. End of story.

They (cops, security etc) can use reasonable force to remove trespassers from the land, if the landowner or their agent (that does not include the police) has asked people, but it is still a civil offence.
