Climate Camp people call on SWP to step in and help organise

Because of some of the recent problems the Climate Camp organising group have experienced we were approached by a delegation and as of today the SWP central environmental group have agreed to take over the build up and running of the 2008 Climate Camp.

The Peoples Camp for Climate Action will take place at Kingsnorth, Kent between the 3rd and 11th of August. the SWP is organising a day of Day of mass action against Kingsnorth Power Station on Saturday August 9th as part of the camp but other events will be ongoing as well. Please see our website for full details.


Transportation from many parts of the country is being organised please call 020 7819 1170 for details of pick up points. Or email us on  enquiries@swp.org.uk (please note this is now the main contact details for the camp organisation so please don't use the old ones any more to avoid confusion.

O dear looks like somebody has let the cat out of the bag a little early. This anouncement of the SWP involvement wasn't supposed to be public knowledge until the first day of the Camp when people would have already turned up. I guess we can always rely on the SWP to pull a defeat out of the jaws of victory can't we ?

What will they be doing ?

I heard about this at ramparts the other night but I understood they were only going to be providing legal observers, stewards and some funding. I know we had discussed them taking over the build up publicity but I thought this was still being discussed ?

Our role

The SWP has been called in because of our extensive experience in large events of this kind as well as our ability to provide advice and people for media liason. Some people had seen how the preperation for the camp had started to fall apart and recognised the need for a group that could handle the camp, the free music festival, the police and the media without the infighting that had been going on in the past.
