Colombia claims founder of FARC is dead. - disinfo alert.

iosaf mac d | 24.05.2008 18:23 | Analysis | Social Struggles | Terror War | World

Pedro Antonio Marín a.k.a. Manuel Marulanda Vélez codename "Tirofijo" (English: Sureshot) (born 12 May 1930 Genova, Colombia - is reported by Colombia to have died of a heart attack on the 22nd of March 2008)

The release of this news this afternoon is calculated to distract from the court order issued in the last 14 hours on Senator Piedad Córdoba the champion indiginous and womens' rights in Colombia and most outspoken critic of the Uribe regime. Already facing charges of treason for describing Colombia as a "Narcostate" and Uribe as being the centre of a Mafia and Terrorist regime, Piedad Cordoba's case ought take full consideration today.

Tirofijo the founder of FARC was believed to be the oldest "guerilla" alive. His death in March would have followed three weeks after the March 1st assassination of Raul Reyes who proposed a peace process in 2005, a process which Senator Cordoba was international recognised as working for in a role of interlocutor, opposed to paramilitarism and to the purpose of conflict resolution. Indeed Raul Reyes was married to one of Tirofijo's daughters Olga Marín.

In the last hours the narcostate of Colombia has dropped an infobomb on analysts and journalists worldwide.

If they're good at one other thing than serving paradoxical US interests of CIA and DEA and keeping the world both supplied with and eradicating cocaine - the narcostate of Colombia is very good at disinfo or info manipulation. & as such the reported death of "Tirofijo" the founder of FARC must be understood. As indeed the failure of Sarkozy's humanitarian intervention and Chavez' International Red Cross "operation Emmanuel" to save a baby from FARC which was in a Colombian narcostate orphanage all along.

& thus we ought not be surprised that in the last hours two conflicting dates are being presented for his death - 22/3/08 or 24/3/08 nor need we dwell upon the fact that the news was leaked yesterday to a Colombian right wing magazine by Defence minister Juan Manuel Santos Calderón, suspected of AUC (far right terrorist) collusion and/or membership or if that's libel at least keep it at him being a very close friend and associate of Pedro Carmona who attempted a foiled "coup d'etat" against Chavez.

You can't write an obituary without consistent information. English and Spanish wikipedia do not curently gel :-
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manuel_Marulanda_V%C3%A9lez
 http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manuel_Marulanda_V%C3%A9lez
& Spanish language media is equally confused and partisan having already focussed on the Piedad Cordoba news.

There will be an update comment later on & there will be as planned a translation of comments and interviews given by Senator Piedad Cordoba on the road to Peace and Conflict Resolution as well as the need to bring Uribe to the International Criminal Tribunal soon. Her persecution and that of those she speaks for and has nearly been assassinated for are plainly of more newsvalue than the death of Pedro Antonio Marín "Tirofijo". For without the bravery of the ordinary women and indiginous on the frontiers of Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador - nobody is going to Rest In Peace.

Peace Processes are not won.
They are earned.

I had intended to publish today a series of comments in translation made by Senator Piedad Cordoba whilst visiting Europe for the Catalan VI table of peace conference in April on the presence of far right terrorists in Uribe's cabinet and the role currently played by Sarkozy in the region. It was to be the second of a series on women connected to the Colombia situation the first being - - " Colombia parades FARC's top female "Karina" - Regional Temperature rising. 19.05.2008"

21st of May - Interpol listed Pedro Antonio Marín "Tirofijo" as 86th most wanted

24.05.2008 19:25

The same constantly updated list placed Osama Bin Laden, "the Emir" at 202nd most wanted criminal in the world.

That information is supposedly updated with honest collaboration between member states, indeed just as more and more people think Osama is dead he goes down the list, and Tirofijo to the contrary went up the list one month after now the narcostate of Colombia say he died either of a heart attack or result of Colombian military action. Someone's telling porkies.

BBC opting for "may be dead" - Colombia now backing one story alas without proof

24.05.2008 20:43

Meanwhile in the real world where we write about how others live; 8 years after he was nearly stabbed to death by far right terrorists William Parra a journalist with TeleSUR has denounced the witch-hunt in Colombia which has seen him and ten other civilians charged with "FARC politics".

 http://www.telesurtv.net/noticias/secciones/nota/index.php?ckl=28223-NN

Venezuela's minister of Justice has rejected the use of Raul Reyes computers as evidence against Colombian civilians of collusion with FARC or of the Venezuelan or Ecuadorian states for that matter. You get your hands on a hard drive, you can do what you want with it. can't you?

Uribe's supporters are moving to hold a referendum to change the constitution so he may run for a third term as president or second re-election. Oddly enough the first dictator of cuadillo of Colombia was named Uribe too. In fact he was a double Uribe. Which you might think might appeal to far right terrorist elements and three cocaine cartles who back the current Uribe, a sort of sentimental streak which runs through fascistic minds.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rafael_Uribe_Uribe But you'd miss that the first Uribe was a "liberal" party member. The left wing party which is currently being attacked for which in fact the above mentioned Senator Piedad Cordoba was elected for. Which you might think means Colombians have elections like the good people of Crewe. Which would almost prompt me to ask you to drop a red pill so that the BBC's man in Bogota Jeremy Mc Dermott could get his "maybe this is news" stories filed quicker than one and four minutes after I tell ye there is a DIS INFO alert.

But you need to know what to do with these things. You turn them around. Many of you now know stuff you didn't know before. And perhaps you'll read the next articles in the series and here what these people who want peace actually say for themselves. Hopefully some will see in this situation a very real and proximate danger of regional conflict and one which strategically could suit US overt armed intervention and attention whilst many people just worry about Iran. You'll be coming off that red pill soon. Relax, it all goes together even if it may not be pithily explained so. We work up to the Mormon army of agent smiths very slowly. A little titbit or factoid which might tickle the trivial bent of mind when in the next article of this series on Senator Piedad Cordoba we look at which agencies are actually working in the triangle of Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador. Like you didn't think Sarkozy stuck his snout in just for the positive public opinion did you?

Spanish State News Agency reports "no FARC confirmation"

24.05.2008 21:01

no confirmation that either "TiroFija" or "Osama" are Dead or Alive.
no confirmation that either "TiroFija" or "Osama" are Dead or Alive.

ANNCOL is "the news agency of the new Colombia" which conduits reliably for the general secretaryship of the FARC. Together with "TeleSUR" it verified the 23/6/05 Raul Reyes proposals of a peace process. Of course FARC have a website too. Like so does the City of London plod and Interpol, but nobody really goes there for information. When Colombia assassinated Raul Reyes they flew out his body from Ecuador in helicopters. In this sort of game - no body no death. These people just slip down the most wanted list of Interpol like Osama (as mentioned above).

Unless there is confirmation from FARC of the death I reckon this thread is closed and all that is needed to help people see the multiple emotions, victims, issues and sides to both the conflict and thus its resolution - is to get them out of the knee jerk murdering FARC thought bubble. Remember Spain has been the largest arms supplier to all sides in the conflictive region under both Aznar and Zapatero. The illustration from Spain's state news agency says it all really. Which is why I've left it.

You can play the game too!!! Who do you want to be leader of FARC???

24.05.2008 22:12

who do you want to be leader of FARC?
who do you want to be leader of FARC?

Or do you follow a quaint notional idea that a third world state up to the gills in ________ can simply stop having a terror problem if leaders of rebels are killed and critics of the regime are imprisoned?
I propose commandante Zwarqwuark as the new brains and hard man behind the baddies. At least with terrorists you get around to having names sooner or later. Pablo Escobar was an exception rather than a rule. We know his name because he got into sponsoring a football club and then his little romp into community affairs when he offered to clear the national debt if they'd just leave him alone in the jungle with the sort of girls and boys who liked being called bitch. Or maybe they just do it for a living. shocking stuff. You can see why the Daily Mail and Telegraph want the nice clean living squeeky chap in the photo.

Matilda Matilda told such lies.
children will still sell roses
so they can sniff glue.

BASTA!
this story needs to end.

I couldn't resist leaving the links to the edit history pages of Wikipedia's English & Spanish versions of today's disinformation romp.

Deadline for "name your leader of FARC" competition passed - The age of TeleSUR

25.05.2008 19:17

Thanks to all those readers, analysts, commentators and interested parties who took part in the game outlined in the penultimate comment "Who do you want to be leader of FARC".

Appropriately enough FARC have decided to say they've made the decision themselves. They did so not as is habitual through the Stockholm based news agency named in the third last comment but in video form as aired today on TeleSUR the continental wide broadcasting network set up by a variety of states under the initial sponsorship of Hugo Chavez.

you may read about it here  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/05/399527.html

In a small way the medium and manner of the communique is worthy of attention. Because in these types of games with huge consequences it is the little details that really are worthy of attention. Colombia claimed that their source for the dis-info they launched yesterday with two different death dates for "Tirofijo" and two different causes of death (heart attack or as result of their bombing of the fireproof jungle) came from "a source which had never let them down before". Quite. Gurgle. Ribbid. It is an often overlooked curiousity of history that both G.Herbert Bush and M. Sergeyevich Gorbachev learnt about the fall of the Berlin Wall from television pre-broadcast news briefings rather than the intention of their respective intelligence services or diplomatic stations on site.

We now live in an age where Brazil found its first coca plantations when an internet chatroom frequented by adolescents discussed anamolous images of rainforest found on Google Earth. We have gone beyond the stage when TV news briefings provided states with some of the best intelligence.

The fact that FARC chose to release their vid directly to TeleSUR not only belied the fact that Colombia considers the telly network to be a source which has never let it down before but also a shift in the wider continental context within which that organisation wishes to cast its own future as the last terrorist organisation of nominally political motivation in activity.

Just as TeleSUR's own staff are now being caught up in Colombia's attempts to criminalise comment on FARC as "Farco-politics" (see the second comment to the article above) it appears that the public opinion of the continent's telly viewers will play the greatest role yet in providing objectives to those with doctorates in spin. Colombia like many other states before will now have to come to terms with the influence a trans-national commercial TV network has on its own propaganda.

Never get a doctorate in spin. You go dizzy.

New Competition! "Help Colombia to Find FARC founder's grave"

28.05.2008 13:32

If you help the state of Colombia find the grave of FARC's founder
they will give you 5 billion pesos
or 1.7 million Euros
or 1,287,920 sterling pounds.

I suppose you could ask them for a submarine full of cocaine instead which would make your reward more transportable. You'd have to ask them though. After all as you well know (surely) one and a quarter billion quid doesn't fit in a hold-all sports bag. "You'd need a bank account to transfer it to" cry the experienced. Meanwhile in an issue explored at this thread -  http://indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/05/399608.html Colombia is now claiming that FARC were planning to attack Madrid, Spain.
