Cops become animal rights activists

Edtheduck | 26.02.2008 19:08 | Animal Liberation | Repression | Social Struggles | Liverpool

'the police have asked the restaurateurs to take the ingredients off the menu'

In a recent but not unusual turn of events, the police have been going round warning restaurateurs about animal rights 'extremists', urging them to take appalling abuse off their menu.

The cops have also been:

'[...] carrying out undercover work and monitoring activists after threats of damage to property and restaurants in the area.'

So we should all be safe to abuse ducks and geese soon. Though in the mean time these restaurants are going to stand firm:

Why do they persist in selling this abuse when it is completely unnecessary and incredibly cruel?

It is the restaurant owners that are the true extremists.

Mooney performs U-turn and dumps foie gras

27.02.2008 16:03

Just a few days after publicly refusing to 'bow to pressure' from animal rights activists. Matthew Mooney, in an e-mail to Foie Gras Free North, has confirmed that he has withdrawn the offending dish from the menu of his restaurants.

Mr Mooney has stated that he has received threats, due to this unpopular dish being presented by his establishments, however, we are disappointed that he did not see the clear cruelty involved, and make a positive decision not to include such abject cruelty on the menu.

We hope that in time he will review his entire menu and consider the cruelty involved in many of the items on display.

Mr Mooney helps run The Belle Epoque and The Duke of Portland in Cheshire, and the George and Dragon in Chester.
