Update on people arrested at EDO on 3rd October

Five people arrested on 3rd October (for aggravated trespass and obstruct police) have had their charges altered to 'Conspiracy to Cause Criminal Damage'. This is a much more serious charge which carries a maximum life sentence. The extent of the allegations against them are that they or person unknown locked on to the front doors of the factory and superglued the locks causing EDO MBM to have to break a window to get in and change the locks.

They will appear at Brighton Magistrate's Court at 9.30 am on Thursday 18th October to have the case transferred to the Crown Court.

life sentence?

I thought that the maximum sentence was 10 years and unlimited fine even if it went to crown (i.e. the same as the criminal damage)?
How much does the broken window cost?

life sentence!

a life sentence doesn't mean life, it means 10 years (5 in reality as people tent to serve only half the sentence, unless the state wants to be cruel!!!). the cps do have a hard case to prove, i think.

longer than 10 year sentances can be given thou!

good luck to all of those charged!

Peaceful protest carrying 10 years huh? It almost makes violence seem a more attractive option.

over the top

guys, yes they could IN THEORY get ten years but theres no way that would apply for this, this is the most superficial case of conspiracy at best. Besides, there is a lot to prove, theres no way they'll be found guilty nevermind given prison sentences.
