Ever had a post on the newswire hidden and when you've asked why been told to "take it to the lists".
This standard answer for all moderation and editorial guidelines questions has been an easy way to get rid of those posters who question the unelected admins and their iron control of the newswire. Most people don't know where the "lists" are and when they do get there they often found it hard to use.
An example of this has been . He has been setting up Indymedia Cymru in Wales but with a policy to have an editorial policy based on the views of the users and contributors. This has not gone down well with the IMC UK elite who don't like to see their views questioned. The answer below from IMC Moderator is a perfect example of why the site needs a major overhall.

A brief precis for those who can't be bothered to read the whole thing,

"Don't question us - Fuck off"

"Why are you here ?

This list is meant to be for proposals and discussion by IMC UK
moderators about features and newswire admin. You are not part of any
IMC-UK collective, you are not an IMC UK moderator and you are not
proposing features so why are you here?

You make no constructive input and have repeatedly been told to fuck
off by those you annoy. You've told us you don't support the
statement of principles by which we work and you clearly don't even
support the 'ineffectual konformists' (as you put it) who supply the
content and subject mater for the site.

So, why are you here? Are you waiting around to be banned from the
list in order that you can spout yet more nonsense about indymedia
being infiltrated and run by spooks?

Your posts are nothing but disruption. You even had the cheek to post
disruptive lies and disinformation about IMC UK on your little
misnamed blog 'indycymru'.

So, why are you here and why shouldn't those who do actually care
about the indymedia project, and do the actual work of running it,
simply demand that you desist from posting your unwanted shit to
these lists?

IMC going downhill fast

09.07.2007 15:34

Once "", "" and fuckwits like "" stole the site from those who used to run it by meetings and talking it was all downhill.

Ilyan has a few wacky ideas but I do respect his view that the users of the site should run it.

UK admins are runining the site and I hope they all fuck off and leave it to those of us who want to report the news not run endless Jew hate posts and cut and pastes from the Cuban Information Ministry

Who elects the admins

09.07.2007 15:39

I've been reading Indymedia in the UK for about two years and I still don't understand how the site workers get elected. When and how are the votes cast, who nominates them ?

I sent a couple of emails asking to contribute but was told no help was needed. Who makes the decisions ?

Would like to be involved

Illyan should fuck off and start his own site if he doesn't like this one. We don't want him and we don't need him

No friend of Ilyan

Why editied ?

09.07.2007 17:38

I see that since this post was first put up this afternoon it has been heavily edited.

1 - The admin responsible for the disgusting response to 's e-mail was . He was named in the original post but all mentions of his name have been removed

2 - There was six links to other posts where the editorial guidelines had not been broken but the posts had been hid

3 - The orginal article listed a number of excellent suggestions based on other IMC's ideas that could be incorporated into the UK site, these have all been removed

4 - Other examples of heavy handed control were listed, these have been removed as well

The recent fall in readers over the past year has certainly been because so many people are unhappy with the way the site is being run, the admins need to LISTEN

Thanks for the support everybody. I am passionate about Indymedia and what it can offer us all. There is a fight going on at the moment for the heart of the UK newswire, a fight we must win.

Cheers

thereby only proving what point was trying to make. The newswire is not yours "" it belongs to all of us who contribute to it, read it, send in reports and tell our friends. This Stalinist control is not what we want.
