Take action to protect Freedom of Information Act
unnecessary | 19.04.2007 11:42 | Repression
David Mclean, MP for Penrith, is trying to hide the democratic process by putting forward a private members bill that will remove Parliament from being subject to the Freedom of Information Act (see release from CFOI below). Please contact Mclean and your MP, asking them to work towards making Parliament open and democratic, and not to hide its workings from the people

Dear Friend,
The Campaign has circulated a briefing to MPs on the Freedom of Information (Amendment) Bill, which has its report stage on Friday 20 April. This Private Members Bill, introduced by David Maclean MP, would (a) remove Parliament from the scope of the Freedom of Information Act, and (b) create a new exemption under the Act for all communications between MPs and public authorities. The Campaign believes neither of these changes are justified.
The briefing can be downloaded from http://www.cfoi.org.uk/.
Best wishes,
Katherine Gundersen

Outsource MPs - squat Carlisle ?

An anti-abortion, pro-hunting, pro-Iraq, pro-Trident, Thatcherite homophobe.
He said about beggars 'I always give them something - I give them a piece of my mind' which explains why he is so small minded if not why he is so mean spirited. Maybe there would be fewer beggars if he wasn't claiming such extortoniate expenses from the tax-payer - no wonder he wants to kill the FOI act, his expenses are hardly 'conservative' - £133,219 for 2004/05

Bear in mind these figures are on top of his £60675 salary as an MP.
Now, in the spirit of the free market and globalisation, maybe we should outsource MPs jobs to a more competitive democracy like India. An Indian MP earns 144,000 rupees or £1717. We aren't allowed to demonstrate anywhere near Parliament anyway, so why not outsource it to India and pocket the saving in taxes ? Just in Davids case the public would be saving £198,000 every year. Repeat that for each MP that'd be enough to convert the Houses of Parliament and all their constituency offices into something more useful, like shelter for the homeless beggars that David so despises.
You know what be fun ? Taking busloads of homeless people down to camp outside Davids house in Carlisle for the summer. A French homeless group - Les Enfants de Don Quichotte- did this along the banks of the Seine last year to highlight their plight. Carlisle is quite a nice place to sleep outside when it's this warm. We'd be letting the locals we are staying just because we appreciate the sage advice of the MP they voted for.
