Video of Protest at Manchester magistrates court over Police Rave Riot

Fuzz one | 27.01.2007 03:47 | Free Spaces | Repression

This video shows two things clearly. One is that there were definately a lot of out of control Police actions happening at the break up of the squatted warehouse in bellevue on the 20th Jan. Another is that visiting court nowadays is a privilledge not a right.

The fact that a fair few people bother to turn up to support someone accused of Affray during the events of last Saturday show that they were not impressed at what happened.

When you hear these first hand reports of Police Brutality you will see why.

duty solicitor!!

sounds like you may have been given dodgy advice.

if you were innocent and had witnesses to show it, then a night on remand would have been well worthwhile, and you should certainly have pleaded innocent.

you could have sued the cops, taught them a lesson and pocketed several thousand pounds.

instead, they've won, you've got a serious criminal record for the rest of your life, and all that community service to do. not a good outcome.

you don't have to prove your innocent

they have to prove you are guilty.

taking a guilty plea is an admittion of guilt and is always a silly move.

whom ever was charged should of pleaded not guilty and challenged it.

from what was said the police did act unlawfully. if you are squating the police can not just come in and chuck you off. they have to have the owners permission to do so.

i agree with most of what rikki has said, but i think when it comes to criminal records they are not premanment. an offence will be on it for a number of years (about 7 or so), unless you take a caution, which again is an admission of guilt and are permament. NEVER TAKE A CAUTION! that being said i will check on the criminal record thing when i get chance.

Bad advice

Not too sure about this but I've been told if you're given bad advice by a solicitor you can sue them. I doubt you'd be sucessful though cos the legal profession see themselves as above the law. Just thought you'd like to know though.
