Mystery Tristar over Whitby

Whitby Today is appealing to witnesses who saw this mystery plane, a rendition flight? something worse? Any ideas anyone?

Tristar?
Tristar?

Mystery of town's low-flying jet

A MYSTERIOUS low-flying plane was spotted over Whitby on Friday afternoon by residents heading in the direction of Teesside.

The jet, which passed over the town at about 4pm, looked like a passenger aircraft but pictures taken by Whitby Gazette photographer Doug Jackson show the plane had no windows or markings on the side.

An RAF Fylingdales spokesperson said it was not a military plane and that they had no record of the flight.

The plane was seen flying with its nose pointing up as if coming in to land but did not have its landing gear down.

It appeared to be heading in the direction of Durham Tees Valley airport.

similar Seen over Leeds

30.12.2006 10:02

early this year two black dc10 planes in convoy were photographed over Leeds on approach to lba with again no markings whatsoever or id, it was taken that they were rendition flights as again no record of any such aircraft in airspace that day existed
the article should be in the leeds indymedia archives

Is it a KC10

30.12.2006 11:20

It looks like a KC10 to me but I am no expert. They are usually used as refuellers but can carry other cargo.
They are often refuelling US military aircraft over the North Sea.

Rendition Flights

30.12.2006 12:03

As far as is known the CIA tend to use smaller gulfstream jets for rendition flights.

I can't find any record of a KC10 for Friday but that is not unusual since KC10s and KC135 fly in and out all the time and so people only tend to be interested in visitors.
