Is Labour now ready to dump Blair over Iraq?

Demands for Blair to quit over his slavish support for George W Bush are to be taken to Labour's annual conference next month.

An emergency resolution has been drafted and will be sent to all constituency Labour parties calling for a leadership election within two months of the conference.

It will be tabled by the Campaign for Labour Party Democracy, who have four members of the National Executive, including anti-war campaigner Walter Wolfgang.

The calls for Blair to go will be boosted by support for John Prescott, since he said President Bush's performance on the Middle East road map was "crap".

The call for a new leader is also intended as a spur to Gordon Brown to force Mr Blair out.

The group want Prescott to stay on as deputy and let Brown secure the leadership.
