IMC Liverpool | 31.03.2006 10:35 | Anti-militarism | Liverpool

On Thursday evening protesters gathered outside Condis Hope street hotel to start the events on this 2 day unwelcoming event. Large numbers of banners and loud chanting ensured it had a large profile.

I support this black woman of power

I wonder what it is about this brave woman of colour that so frightens people. She overcame the death of her parents at an early age, racism from the KKK and real poverty to achieve high political office.

Despite all their talk the White, European Middle Class Left just can't deal with that. When it comes to it they resent she has achieved so much. Fighting Racism and Sexism means accepting that black women can achieve without white men.

But Condelezza Rice is black, show some respect for black people!

31.03.2006 14:41

Condelezza Rice may not be your favourite politician at the moment but she is one of the most successful black people in America and a role model for other black people and proof that black people can make it big and be just as successful as whites. Also shouldn't we welcome foreign politicians whatever their political background for taking the time and effort to visit our country, as it shows they care about Britain and us. I think it is a bit rude to treat foreign politicians with a noisy protest just because you don't agree with one of their policies.

20 SWP regulars holding the standard Socialist Worker banners, can't think why this demo didn't get national media coverage.

Yawn

Is it because I am black ?

31.03.2006 15:57

"I think it is a bit rude to treat foreign politicians with a noisy protest just because you don't agree with one of their policies."

I remember nasty protestors who complained when P.W. Botha visited Thacher in 1984, they were just complaining about one issue.
And you know, for all the obvious evil of apartheid, it isn't as big a crime as genocide. Even black's can be monsters and Rice is more like Botha than Mandela.

Show respect for the dead of iraq

31.03.2006 16:11

If Condi Rice is your role-model then you should be ashamed. She's a rich right-wing parasite who helped take the world to war and needs to be held accountable for her crimes for doing so.

To not protest against her on the grounds that she is black would be racist in itself.

how patronizing!

31.03.2006 17:55

To Black Briton
Are you seriously suggesting that a warmonger like condoleeza rice should be left alone because of the colour of her skin? What about Mugabe? It is patronizing to all black people to suggest that we give this 'woman' preferential treatment because of the colour of her skin, or turn the other cheek because she is black. There are and have been many black people who are worthy of admiration in recent history, Martin Luther King Jr, Mumia Abu Jamal and Rosa Parks to name but a few. The best way to end race discrimination is to judge people by the merit of their actions, not the colour of their skin, and to do otherwise only encourages a divide between people of different ethnicities.
I also find your comment that we should be grateful for her visit deluded and naive. Her visit has nothing to do with her feelings for us, but is simply a propaganda stunt and an attempt to strengthen the diplomatic ties that have already caused so much death and tragedy in Iraq/Afghanistan.
we need to build a society where people are accepted and loved because they are nice, sharing people. Black people are just as capable of this as whites, in the same way that some black people also have the capacity to be as eveil as some whites. In short, we are all human, amnd until more people begin to realise that, we will continue to allow the ruling classes and hate mongering racists to divide us by the colour of our skin.

>the most successful black people in America and a role model for other black people

I agree, few blacks have managed to be so evil -

We should think of Condi as a role model for all women people of color who aspire to evil but have been blocked by the white male domination of that realm

Black Briton sounds fake to me

03.04.2006 11:37

I strongly doubt whether "Black Briton" is actually black; they sound more like a right wing troll trying to play the right-on race card because they think anti-racism is some kind of "weakness" among lefties which can be exploited. Sadly their tactic backfired.

Whether they are black or not, they are certainly fucking stupid.

CONDI A ROLE MODEL? NOT IN THE U.S., THANK GOODNESS!!

03.04.2006 15:43

Black Briton [someone pretending to be black]: "She is also a role model for black people"

In fact, she is an *embarrassment* to 99.9% of black people in the U.S. (except to the 0.1% of black conservatives) -- and to most blacks in Britain -- and in Brixton -- too.

I would explicitly tell you what she is sometimes called in the Africa American community, but I don't know if UK Indymedia would let it get posted (but it starts out with "Condoleeza the [slang that rhymes with leeeza]).

I am African American and, indeed, I came to the UK Indymedia website to look for and check out the wonderful photos of the protests against Condi.

So, as far as protesting Condi: TALLYHO!!
