Another court victory for EDO protesters

26.03.2006 16:48 | Iraq | South Coast

A High Court judge has lifted the interim injunction on the 2 remaining protesters fighting the injunction and issued a damning indictment on EDO MBM's conduct of the trial. EDO MBM were accused of 'woeful neglect' of the issues and indemnity costs were awarded to the two protesters. The trial will go ahead at an as yet unspecified date in the summer.

Meanwhile a legal observer who was arrested for using a video camera at a demonstration outside EDO MBM in June last year in an alleged breach of the injunction then in force, has had charges against him dropped .

The case would have involved a Crown Court jury trial and the legal observer faced a possible 5 year prison sentence if found guilty. In June last year he was remanded to HMP Lewes for nearly a week after his arrest despite the fact that he has no criminal record. This brings to 21 the number of cases related to EDO protests where charges have been dropped or courts have acquitted protesters.

Last week also saw 2 successful actions at EDO MBM. On Tuesday March 21 around 25 weapons inspectors were preventing from inspecting EDO MBM's WMDs by the same number of police but kept up a vocal presence at their gates. At a noise demo on Thursday around 20 protesters were greeted by 2 Guardian Security guards. After half an hour a solitary cop car appeared to monitor the security but was powerless to stop protesters venting their anger at EDO MBM's vicious business.

>From next Wednesday, March 29, weekly noise demos will be on Wednesdays from 4-6 meeting at Moulsecoomb train station at 4.

Thursday 30th March 2006. Demonstration at ‘Advanced Weapons Integration Conference,’5.30-6.30pm, Selfridge Hotel, Orchard Street just off Oxford Street round the corner from Selfridges. LONDON At this arms conference sponsored by EDO MBM among others the Paveway 4 missile system will be presented. EDO MBM supply the bomb racks and electronic interface equipment to clients Raytheon Systems for integration into Paveway 4.
