anti fascist leafletting success

Anti-fascist activists gave out fliers today after the holocaust memorial event at Leeds Town Hall. What better occasion to remind people that extreme far right politics and opinion is far from a thing of the past, and still needs vigorously opposing?

Anti-fascist activists gave out fliers today after the holocaust memorial event at Leeds Town Hall. What better occasion to remind people that extreme far right politics and opinion is far from a thing of the past, and still needs vigorously opposing?

The response from the public was universally excellent, with many people wishing activists luck in challenging and confronting fascist ideology and activities - one woman even offered to help give out leaflets.

Oddly enough there were no white nationalists around to exercise their precious ‘freedom of speech’ in defending their hero’s big project – or denying it ever happened.

FLIER TEXT
Fascism didn’t die in 1945!
Hitler’s obscene ideology lives on through fascist organisations like the BNP. They mask their race-hate in cheap suits, but scratch the surface and you’ll find the politics of the jackboot. And the lunatic fringe – the British People’s Party and their ilk – don’t even bother to conceal their sick beliefs. Their ideology is that of the gas chambers…
Wherever fascism rears its head… it will be fought!

Stalin’s obscene ideology lives on through Communist organisations like Respect. They mask their hate for any opponents in cheap suits, but scratch the surface and you’ll find the politics of the hammer and sickle. And the lunatic fringe – the Communist Party and their ilk – don’t even bother to conceal their sick beliefs. Their ideology is that of the fireing squads

i'm a grrl, thank you :)
i was just really pleased to see that you were leafletting outside. the mayor, in his initial speech, referenced the recent griffin trial and described the bnp protestors as 'fascist mobs' (i think they were the exact words)

the line on the front of the programme was 'one person *can* make a difference'.

they also published a statement of commitment:

1. we recognise that the holocaust shook the foundations of modern civilisation. its unprecedented character and horror will always hold universal meaning.

2. we believe the holocaust must have a permanent place in our nation's collective memory. we honour the survivors still with us, and reaffirm our shared goals of mutual understanding and justice.

3. we must make sure that future gener5ations understand the causes of the holocaust and reflect upon its consequences. we vow to remember the victims of nazi persecution and all of genocide.

4. we value the sacrifices of those who have risked their lives to protect or rescue victims, as a touchstone of the human capacity for good in the face of evil.

5. we recognise that humanity is still scarred by the belief that race, religion, disability or sexuality make some people's lives worth less than others'. genocide, antisemitism, racism, xenophobia and discrimination still continue. we have a shared responsibility to fight these evils.

6. we pledge to strengthen our efforts to promote education and research about the holocaust and other genocide. we will do our utmost to make sure that the lessons of such evenst are fully learnt.

7. we will continue to encourage holocaust remembrance by holding an annual uk holocaust memorial day. we condemn the evils of prejudice, discrimination and racism. we value a free, tolerant and democratic society.

LEFTY HOLOCAUSTS

29.01.2006 23:26

I hate fascism, but what about what Stalin and Mao did? Doesn't that matter? What about what the Israelis are doing to the Palestinians? Will AFA ever demonstrate against pro-Zionist businesses that give support to Israel? The left told everyone to boycott South African goods before apartheid was abolished, Israel treats its Palestinian citizens as bad as the SA govt treated the Blacks so why don't you campaign for a boycott of Israel? Or is the Zionist Searchlight mag still pulling your strings?

Did and DO

The difference between what Stalin DID and what the BNP/BPP DO is that Stalin has stopped. Similarly Mao has stopped. Those annoying Lefties do not fetishise Stalin or Mao like the Right Fetischise Hitler, Mussolini or any one of a number of dead evils. And as Max Stirner might point out - in laconic mood - Libertarianism is merely Fascism without Friends.

As for condemning evil in the world now, there is a tremendous amount of bile from the Right because they want to spread their evil Creed but are too lazy to get off their arse and do it. So they expect the Left to do it for them. Maybe Libertarian could persuade the BNP - in its "new nonfascist, purely nationalist", incarnation to demonstrate against the occupation of the West Bank. Or, perhaps, against the American threat to remove aid from the Hamas Government - more legally elected than the Good Mister Bush.

Or maybe so called Libertarians are incapable of telling the difference between DID and DO.

Gimme a break
Almost everyone on this site knows RESPECT for what it is, an innefectual, apologist sham of an organisation designed to disguise the SWPs thirst for parliamentary power and Galloways need for fame. But Stalinist? check your facts. If anything, you should pick on the SWP, who are open supporters of Trotsky and Lenin, and have forums justifying the Krondstadt massacres etc. RESPECT has moved away from this lenninist message so that the disguised ranks of the SWP can appeal to a wider number of supporters without appearing like fanatics. There are many valid critcisms of RESPECT, most of which I would love to see plastered all over this site, but your implications, and your insinuation that many IMC users are affiliated to RESPECT is moronic. So please, there are targets out there, but pick them carefully, cos your making yourself look stupid.

Fuck respect, fuck stalinists, fuck nazis!

The difference between the millions murdered by Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot etc and the holocaust is that socialists doesn't apologise for or deny that this happened. We see the degeneration of the stalinist states as a mutilation of marxism and a lesson for revolutionaries in the future.

As far as Anti-Fascist-Action taking up the pro-palestinian struggle, for it start it no longer exists. Secondly, AFA (as the name would suggest) was a anti-fascist united front, i.e it was specifically formed to militantly oppose fascism. The left across the world does take up the fight against zionism in the middle east. The international solidarity movement sends out volunteers to support palestinians in the occupied territories, there are numberous boycotts againist isreali produced good, and generally quite a strong international movement condemning the zionist state, and supporting the palestinians

I am continuously monitoring the post as the debate is very quick moving and has generated considerable interest during the past month!

How many times do you thick fascists need to be told?

AFA doesn't exist anymore.

Perhaps we need to beat that into you more often until you get it...

addition to the holocaust memorial event

30.01.2006 19:36

picking up on comments about what are we doing about what's going on *now*?
at the end of the ceremony on sunday there was, projected on a screen at the front of the hall, a list of genocides and atrocities committed from (i think) 1900 to the present day. a group of traveller kids also spoke earlier and read their poems. i didn't expect the event to be as inclusive.

nice to see the council getting stuff right for a change.

as for being lefty.. i'd rather have been there than at a bnp meeting. don't see how that's a bad thing.

Shame On the Neo-Nazis

03.02.2006 08:26

neo-Nazi Nick Griffin spat on the grave of murdered black student Stephen Lawrence, by telling lies about him, in the documentary, claiming he was a drug dealer and he was murdered by black people.

Griffin has also denied the holocaust happened. And he is the best friend of the grand wizard of the Ku Klox Klan

I don't know how anyone who isn't a racist lier, can, with homest conscience, support the BNP.

Actually, most pro-fash postings on here, are written by Mark Collett hismelf, as he is always spreading racism online, between appearing in court.

Shame on the neo-Nazis.
