Israeli Anarchists Occupy Main Settler-Road in the West Bank

A group known as the "Anarchist Anti-Zionist Enviromental Macho Bicyclist Fashion Police" (spells GRUSHKA in Hebrew) has managed to stop traffic in one of Israel's main apartheid roads, if only for a few hours

GRUSHKA has decided to mark September 22nd, the day of
the first automobile run in the United States (1886) and, coincidentally, the day of the first death of a Palestinian bicycle rider by an Israeli settler (1936), by attempting to block one of Israel's main apartheid roads in the West Bank, Road number 5, which cuts through the municipal areas of Salfit and Nablus in order to connect settlements such as Barkan, Ariel and Tapuach to Israel's center. This is a "settler
only" road that Palestinians cannot use, even though it is actually built on land stolen from them.

As the barricade of the bicycles, built in the early afternoon, began to drag traffic to a halt, a violent escalation between GRUSHKA and angry settlers began. GRUSHKA members, chained to the bicycles by their arms and legs, suffered endless honking, screaming, and some kicking. A few dozen Israeli Border Policemen arrived at the scene, and after having evacuated the angry settlers, they promptly began kicking, pulling, breaking chains and bicycles, and eventually arresting
all GRUSHKA members that blocked the roads.

Unfortunately, all cameras were confiscated, and what little was saved hardly depicts the events of the day. Currently, the GRUSHKA members are all being held at Ofer detention center near Ramallah, and are waiting to be brought before a judge.

Hey what a great way of getting across to people the truth about the apartheid network of roads for settlers all on bikes too!

nice one!

Do the detained activists in the action need any support and solidarity - do you have an email address or point of contact? What sort of things can we do here to show some solidarity?

Hope everyone's safe and sound and back on their bikes :)

Yeah, send them some baloney sandwiches...
Big deal 6 kids ride their bikes on a highway and everyone gets really excited....meanwhile, Gazans are busy destroying their own ifrastructure...(now, that's exciting!!)

I hate to break it to you, but the road in the photos above is a major highway adjacent to Tel-Aviv. The geography is quite different to what is described.

I'm not sure if you are victims of a hoax, or simply jumping on the bandwagon for something that isn't there. Anyone in Israel would just see photos of some dudes on bikes.

The venom of some of you however is quite disturbing.

I would also be more worried about Palestinians destroying 14 million dollars of infrastructure which was left to them by Philanthropists (greenhouses) because they were Jewish.

Such hatred!

as a police officer who was present at the scene i must reply on these false accusations. the event started when Grushka members blocked a PULIC highway and attacked innocent drivers on their way home. when they blocked the road few drivers came out of their cars to see whats going on, and these hulligans atacked them with no reason or warning. when we arrived to the scene there was already a fight between the drivers - that some of them happened to be settlers - and the Grushka members. once we got in there all the drivers have peacefully left the scene when the Grushka members turned their violence torward us. we had no choice but to call for backup from the border police and after a short struggle between Grushka and the border police we arrested all of them. no matter what is your political opinion - you cant attack both innocent people and police officers and get away with it.
