About 30 women from Uganda have gone on hungerstrike in Yarl's Wood detention centre against deportations to Uganda and in protest against the treatment received in Yarl's Wood.
They say Uganda is a dangerous place to be deported to. Some of the women have been raped and tortured, some became infected with HIV after being raped. Rape and torture are common weapons against political dissidents in Uganda.
The women complain against racism in YW, some of the guards allegedly called them 'black monkeys' and told them they should not be here.
Most of the women want to return to Uganda as they love thier country, but not now because they believe it is not safe. Many of them have got removal directions issued, they perceive they have been targeted.
