Local Transport Plans : You Can Change Them

Keith Farnish | 08.06.2005 11:55 | Ecology

County Councils and Unitary Authorities are publishing the first drafts of their Local Transport Plans covering the period 2006-2011. Now is the time to object to developments that could damage the environment.

Initial responses to these plans at this early stage can make a big impression, and they are needed considering some of the plans include (in Essex alone):

- Maldon to Witham Bypass
- North East Chelmsford Bypass (to enable more housing development)
- A120 Braintree-Marks Tey dualling
- A131 dualling
- A12 widening to 6 lanes between M25 and Colchester
- New or widened access roads to Southend Airport

(for details see:  http://www.essexcc.gov.uk/vip8/ecc/ECCWebsite/dis/guc.jsp?channelOid=16819&guideOid=39939&guideContentOid=41006 )

Southend and Thurrock have NOT published their drafts, so contact them asking for copies on:

Stopping roads in other parts of the country...

10.06.2005 00:16

Keith rightly pointed out that just in his county alone there are loads of road schemes being proposed. This is happening all over the country. Many local authorities are preparing 'wish-lists' of pet road schemes for their 5 year Local Transport Plans. Many are schemes that were defeated inthe 1990s and are being dragged back from the dead.

A little effort now could save a lot fo effort, or destruction in the future.

Please contact Road Block if you want to stop this happening.
