Birmingham trades unionists are taking to the streets today calling on the government to cough up the cash and save MG Rover.
A rally, called by the Birmingham TUC and backed by Longbridge car workers, is set to take place at 12.30 in Victoria Square, Birmingham city center, Saturday 16 April 2005.
Birmingham Trades Council Acting Secretary David Hughes said:
“The impact of 5,000 redundancies at Longbridge is not only a personal tragedy for the families involved but will have a massive impact across Birmingham leading to several times that number in the supply industry being made redundant. We cannot stand back and let this happen. We are calling on trade unionists and the people of Birmingham to give an hour for Rover and turn up at Victoria Square this Saturday at 12.30am
A message must be sent to the government that if they can’t find a company to continue large scale car production at Longbridge they must take it back into public ownership.”

If your lot (nutty trade unionists) had kept your noses out over the last few years then maybe we will still have some jobs to defend.
You Refused New working practices that would have seen us double output
You refused a new working week that would have halfed costs
You refused a new shop floor managment package that would have given power to key workers, because it left out the layabout always off sick scroungers from holding power
and you put as many obsticles as possible in the way of any input from investors to the extent they dropped us like hot sh*t.
Now you want us to stand behind you showing how you fought to save us, no mate like goats you bled us to death.
You Backed the police when they didn't want to buy a car with a viking badge for fear of upseting minorities, well I'm a minority with 5 children and a daughters wedding to pay for next year, did you think I gave a damn about a bloody viking badge ?
In future, listen to the real workers you were elected to represent, just a "little" will make a start.
Shaj.
Unemployed !
In Allah we trust.
