Report on the November 7 London Demo against the attacks on Iraq's cities (In particular, Fallujah)

An adhoc demo (has been advertised for about a week) took place today in London, parliement square in protest at the attacks on Iraq cities.

Starting without any defined plan, the group of 50 to 100 people listened to various testimonies on an open mike session ; and it was then agreed to walk to the cenotaph and lay down flowers. As people crossed the road to lay down flowers, a group of 20 people sat down on the road, linking arms together, blocking whitehall for 10mn before the police removed the last of them. The group then moved on to opposite downing street, with some readings and 2 minute silence.

Some of us broke off after the initial sit-down protest and blocked the road further up, then 2 people got a banner up on some scafolding, then after a light break blocked Cambridge Circus (corner of Tottenham Court Rd and Shaftesbury Ave). This last protest went very well, with a crowd of about 20 people on each side giving support, and people taking advantage of the blockade to wander across themselves, giving the appearance of more people being involved. No arrests, so we retired to "occupy" a pub for half an hour (or the time it takes to enjoy a pint).
