Blair had decided to go.

Blair had decided to go after the European elections but Bush got in the way.

Tony Blair was told he was no longer a electoral asset after the European elections and decided to step down in favour "bad news" Beyers.

When Blair phoned Cheney to report he was instructed in no uncertain terms that he could not go until after the November elections in the US.

Blair obeyed and has now got the hang of staying even when he is not wanted.

After the election defeats this week he will insist on staying.

He will drag the Labour Government down with him as he is dragged kicking and screaming out of Downing Street after he looses the next general election.

Impressed as I am with your access to UK - US secure communications

"When Blair phoned Cheney to report he was instructed in no uncertain terms that he could not go until after the November elections in the US." I have to say I think the Blair might go story has got the mark of a Brown spin all over it. Blair is now in the same position Thatcher was in her last years in that he has little real support within either the Parlimentry party or the grassroots but he does have a proven ability to win elections.

Brown now knows the agreement the two men had is now dead and as such he needs to start undermining Blair's position. Iraq, Blair's health, his daughters problems all represent sticks to beat him with.

The opportunity to move to senior EU position has all but evaporated for Blair and with Cherie no longer commited to High Court Judge (which would have needed Blair to step down) he will probably carry on to the next election.

A Labour victory is the most likely result albeit with a much reduced majority. The exception will be if Howard decides to play the EU card and promise a withdrawl, unlikely but possible.

Re: Blair's Daughter

Unless I am mistaken, it has generally been agreed that, while his Daughter's mental health is a topic for discussion, it is unfair on her to use it as ammo against her father. Further more, it could give rise to problems (not excluding court cases) for UK.IMC.

She is a minor and must be respected as such, even if we hate her father to lowest hell. There is plenty enough ammo to use against Blair without bringing his children into it. I'm sure they weren't properly consulted when their Dad took up office, its not their fault he's such a (insert favourite expletive combo)

Again, I'm sorry if I'm wrong, but much as we all seem to know of this case, it is unfair to use it. Please respect the rights of the child.
