Burned Falluja 'contractors' were torturers

Prajña | 10.05.2004 23:04

Reading Faiza's blog ( http://afamilyinbaghdad.blogspot.com/) I ran across a suggestion that the 'contractors' who were draged through the streets in Falluja had been responsible for torturing Iraqi prisoners. Her posting follows:

I want to stop for a moment at the incident of killing 4 Americans at Falluja.
Now we know that they weren't civilian contractors. They were working for a
private security firm; a firm that trains men to perform assassinations and
engage in fighting and similar actions.

I remember now a comment made by my neighbor that I didn't believe at the
time. Now it surfaces into my brain again. After the Falluja incident I
called her and we talked about different things. She works for the ministry
of health and I know that those working at government offices know some
secrets the regular citizen finds about much later. I told her how amazed I
was and that I refuse such acts of killing and burning people in the
streets. She said: Don't be amazed Um-Raed, they were involved in torturing
and mistreating Iraqis in prisons.
I said: what prisons?
She said: You didn't hear about it?
I told her I didn't and then changed the subject because I didn't believe
her.

Any CREDIBLE sources to verify this?

Faiza is credible, IMHO

Faiza seems credible to me, if only for her honesty and compassion. This is the only reference I have stumbled upon but Faiza is easy enough to find for any reporters in Baghdad - she has given numerous interviews to journalists and tv crews and is good friends with Jo Wilding. As long as she is prepared to give the name of the friend who told her about it then it should be checkable back to source. I guess a careful investigation in Falluja may well confirm or refute it.

Second source

Ok, this is an old thread now but I have found a second independant source for this story. Joe Ryan, one of the 'interrogators' at Abu Ghraib entered the following in his blog on 31 March 2004:

"Four of our CACI people stationed out in Fellujah came over to pick up some cases of water we acquired for them. Not soon after they left to make the 13 mile trek to their base, we got the word on what happened earlier today in Fellujah. I went into work so I could read about it. The mood was somber, yet steeled. "Shit and damn" were the common words uttered as we read the messages and saw the images on the television."

Hope this helps anyone who is researching the Falluja story.
