Egg on Sheriff's face (literally) as Blackwood evictions continue
I egged the sheriff.. but I did not egg the deputy... | 24.03.2004 21:57 | Ecology | Oxford
Today bailiffs and police were once again out in force to evict the remaining camp and clear trees in contested areas.. and an Oxford activist is in court next week for [allegedly] egging the High Sheriff!
Several big trees remaining at Camp Kerry were cut down. Given the balance of bailiff/protester numbers, and the lack of any lower branches (they'd all been removed yesterday), there wasn't much that could be done.
One witness said that there were around 50 bailiffs and police, all included.
At Camp Tree, however, a group of activists had climbed trees, prepared lock-ons etc and managed to resist eviction for several hours. After the eviction, the trees in this area were also completely trashed.
I don't have exact information on numbers of arrests, but I'd guess there were 3-8 arrests for breach of the peace, who were then released without charge, plus one arrest for [allegedly] throwing an egg at the High Sherriff :)
The [alleged] egg-thrower has been charged with section 4 of the public order act (threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour/fear of violence) and is in Blackwood Magistrates court next Tuesday (30th March) at 10:45. Any support would be welcome.
Protesters are still camped on the land bordering Costain's (near Camp Kerry). Some people are packing up and leaving, but others are vowing to continue disrupting work and resisting the bypass.

The baliffs can hardly complain about broken eggs when they are pulling down trees which have nesting birds in them..........magpie.

A complaint has been logged with local police.
I'm proud of my pixies I'm concerned that my pixies don't get hurt. When I'm not working I go up the wood with my pixies, and get a stream of verbal abuse from the baliffs and contractors.....cos I'm a BAD mother.....Boy am I BAD!
But us Blackwood pixies will keep trying to keep the wood in Blackwood.

mongers of doom gather round the scene, surveying the broken dreams...
no respect for the living or the dead,
this road to knowhere shall fall on their heads,
time shall answer all those who remain............
