Facts about Israel!

Rockwell | 19.09.2003 09:27

Here are some facts about Israel and the Middle East that you should read considering this site is so biased against Israel.

At least as many Jews were expelled from arab countries as arabs who left Palestine in 1947-48

In 1947-48 most Palestinian arabs chose to leave Palestine of their own accord they were not forced out. As well as the massacre at Deir Yessen in which a hundred arabs died there were also many massacres of Jewish people by arabs at that time as well.

20 per cent of Israelis are arabs who have more freedom and a higher standard of living than arabs living in neighbouring arab countries.

Israel is not illegally occupying the West Bank and Gazatrip it won them from Eygpt and Jordon after the six day war in 1967.

The UN resolutions asking for Israel to leave the West Bank and Gaza strip are advisory and non binding. Israel cannot leave them until it has negotiated a peace settlement with the Palestinian authority, but so far the Palestinian authority has refused any peace offer.

In the year 2000 Israel offered the Palestinians a state based on 97 per cent of of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Yassar Arafat flatly refused the peace offer.

Isreal is targetted daily by suicide bombers it has the right to defend itself and its people. The attacks on Palestinian areas are aimed at routing out terrorists, they are not unprovoked acts of aggression or acts of war. Israel has asked the Palestinian authority to help in routing out terrorists. But the Palestinian authority has done virtually nothing to stop terrorist attacks on Israel.

If the Palestinian terrorist organisations laid down their arms there would be peace. If Israel laid down its arms there would be no Israel.

Rockwell, I'll mark your work fairly.

1 - expelled Jews. I'll concede that, because it's true. Considering that Israel had taken more land than the UN had agreed, and forced the majority of the Arab poulace to flee in terror of their lives, Jews weren't flavour of the month in Arab countries at the time.

2. Deir Yassin was not an isolated incident. I suggest you read  http://www.codoh.com/zionweb/zionmassacres.html for some enlightening information about the brave Zionist fighters. I know that there were retaliatory killings, but have never seen documented proof of any on the scale perpetrated by the Zionists.

3. If by more freedom you mean that they cannot buy land, build houses or bring Palestinian spouses from the Occupied Territories, then in your own looking-glass world you might be right. It is generally acknowledged by reasonable people that the Israeli Arabs are treated as second class citizens by the Jews, who have a reputation for racism even against their own Sephardic community.

4. Patently untrue. The settlement of occupied territories, and the collective punishment of the occupied population, are illegal as defined by the Geneva Conventions.

5. The resolutions are only non-binding because the US would never have agreed to binding resolutions. This is sophistry, and you know it. Israel could leave tomorrow, but for the settler problem.

6. US participants in the negotiations tell a different story - and your 97% is misleading, since the state would not have been contiguous. Accepting a series of bantustans was simply not an option for the Palestinians.

7. Yes - Israel has the right to protect itself. But pre-emptive strikes against the political leadership of the resistance groups is not a tactic recognised as legitimate by civilised people. If the Israelis hadn't neutered the Palestinian security apparatus at the start of the intifada, perhaps they might be in a position to act against the resistance groups. But undermanned, underarmed and underfunded, they can't.

8. What terrorist organisations? There have been terrorist acts, but not all resistance is terrorism. Attacks on the IDF, for example, are not terrorist. And if Israel punishes the Palestinian civilians collectively, then it is reasonable to assign collective guilt to the Israeli population, and suicide bombings become more logical, if not acceptable.

Your misinformation is very poor indeed, Rockwell - please stay on after class.
