swiss consulate occupied in BCN update.

ipsiphi | 14.06.2003 13:44

As a direct result of the Martin Shaw incident and unwarrented brutality by both Swiss and French authorities in the recent Evian protests, several Diplomatic missions have been protested. The French Consulate, Bcn, the Swiss Embassies London and Berlin. and most recently (as of yesterday) the Swiss Consulate in Barcelona.

@ the link you will find updates on the current situation.
There are still protesters in the Swiss Consulate. There is also a concentration of protesters in front of the Council building at Place Jaume.
Today the newly elected administration shall hold their investiture at 5pm-. They shall be a "pact" of Labour equivalent "PSC" the greens "ICV" and the republicans "ERC".

Martin Shaw as most now know is an Englishman resident in BCN. he is a Barcelonan.

He has been informed that the Swiss authorities are impeding the process of investigation and justice we must remember that the action of the Swiss policeman who cut his rope, was an act of attempted murder. The Swiss state is choosing to protect thus the attempted murdered from Justice.

a short paraphrase of the documentation being distributed in BCN today:-

1 - What will the BCN council (as municipal government and "representative" of the citizens of BCN do for Martin Shaw?

hmmmm. good question.
what do we want?
1. a public declaration (clear and coherent) in which is put the position of the Council vis a vis Martin Shaw.
2. That they take on the demands made on the Swiss yesterday (at which time the consul was occupied).
3. That the BCN municipal authority act as interlocutor between the protesters and the Swiss authorities.

photographs videos and stuff are on the BCN IMC site as usual. Euro donations can be made through the BCN site.
Sterling can be made through UK IMC.

there is factual serious stuff @ the link.
Today the new municipal statelet of Barcelona was invested.
nice verb, isn't it, investing, investiture, "One was invested as mayor...",
people gathered from 12h00 to protest against the impunity issue relating to the G8 incident. Material was distributed in both castellano and catalan explaining the bridge incident, Martin's condition and the continuing presence of two activists hanging from the Swiss Consulate facade.
The New Municipal statelet of Barcelona is to be led by Juan Clos a new Labour equivalent and affiliate, in "pact" with the Green Socialist Party ICV and Republican Catalan Left Party ERC. This has not happened before. They think themselves different and special for that and the hubris is unbearable. We accordingly altered some of our witty, erudite, liguistically inspired, global resonating slogans...
!Que se vayan todos! oh that they all just F off.
to
!Que se vayan todos en bicis!".
I think you will agree that is very greenie.
A small group of activists walked wearing the traditional sash of office which is submission to the state towards the Generalitat the traditional home of government and were prevented entering.
A small group of politicians walked wearing the traditional sash of office which is submission to the state and got in.
Our sashes say "mentira" which is "lie" in the sense of deception and not resting either prostrate or supine not even prone.
The politicians had scarlet ones.
I have never seen an "invest"ure before. I have been very moved by the experience and will hopefully attend others...
But I must remind all, and myself in the traditional glow of heritage and democratic institutions a go go (yes 25 years and 25 alone) that I and most of the assembly I joined, presented ourselves under a banner relating to a sordid incident in the last G8. It causes me and others I suspect serious disquiet, that every international gathering of our movement suffers serious injury to one of our activists.
Martin Shaw is normally resident in Barcelona, thus the state aparatus appropriate to assist his claims on the Swiss authorities is the newly elected "pacted" Municipal Assembly.
