At the G8 Summit Blair has feircly hit back at critics who cliam that he misled Parliament into the war on Iraq by claiming that he read all the evidence of Iraqs WMD and attempts to aquire nuclear weapons evidence which had been passed as accurate by the Secret Intellegence Services and was totally convinced of its accuracy!
He also insisted that it was only a matter of time before weapons of mass destruction would be found in Iraq and that all the evidence would be published over the next few weeks and months for all to see. George Bush also defended the war saying the evidence of Iraqs WMD and attempts to build nuclear weapons was cast iron evidence and totally accurate!
Documents were also discovered in Iraqi government offices stating the link with Al Qaeda. Documents which were examined by the sercet intellegence services and cleared as geniune!
The row over weapons of mass destruction has erupted due to none yet being found in Iraq. But there is no evidence whatsoever to prove that they didn't exist or that Bush or Blair misled people over the evidence. The issue of Iraqs WMD was also debated in Parliament and a majority agreed on the use of force to make Iraq disarm if it refused to willingly.
Tony Blair also stated that he would never risk the lives of British troops unless he believed that it was absolutly neccessary. Blair also blasted critics who claimed that it was all about oil replying that a deal could easily be struck with the Iraqi regime if they wanted Iraqs oil!
Stating clearly that his main concern was to prevent another September 11th style attack he used the example:- "Imagine I said before September 11th that there is a group in Afghanistan called Al Qaeda who are a real threat to the West and are planning a major terrorist outrage and that it was neccessary to go to war to destroy their terrorist base. Most people would disagree that war was not neccessary and protest strongly against military action! Well I dont want to make that mistake with Iraq. I will never allow a serious threat which in a year or two might result in another September 11th style tradgedy from happening knowing that I could have acted to prevent it!"
