Greek Indymedia Always Down...

Babeuf | 25.06.2003 14:31 | Indymedia

Whenever there is conflict or war this site goes down due to technical problems!!!

For a second time in the space of two months the Greek indymedia servers have problems.
Funny how they are linked to events in the outside world.
tens of people have been arrested as a consequence of the police attacks in Thessaloniki and there is no way of posting anything on the Indymedia servers in Greece.
Is it not the case that Greek indymedia run by a character who works for a national daily and with close links to the US security services doesn't conveniently pull the plyg ont he site when it is most needed.
A lot of people in the Greek left currently believe this to be the case.
Why are all the other indymedia collectives silent?
Is it because they know they can do nothing about it?
Either which way independent news service cannot be independent if it always dissapears at crucial times of struggle unless we are to assume news is only there for when it has no meaning...

days of action mean high load on server...

25.06.2003 16:09

before going totally down in conspiracy theories on imc servers and imc volunteers, please remember, that at days of action the load on the server increases massively.

For example the imcuk server was very stressed at events, it was hardly possible to post anything at all, especially in the afternoon and in the evening.
It was not easily possible to upload audio interviews, videos or big sized pictures or other media files.
However, this had nothing to do with any of this accusations frequently raised from psychopathic shizophrenics such as above.

Please remember that indymedia is all run by volunteers, and is constantly struggeling with the lack of resources.

Especially you can also make donations to keep it going and to improve it going, either donations of time, money, or technical resources and skills.

New flashy and funky servers would be appreciated, and computer equipment not only for third world countries.

What we are not happy about is unconstructive moaning, gossiping, bullying and every other bad unsocial behaviour - these individuals would be best of help by using professional highfunded services, such as mainstream media and complain there to their editorial policy.

Proof! Evidence!

25.06.2003 16:19

So, no its time to get concrete, and to come out with proof and evidence, or even some references: which security service, which person, which server?
And why posting it here on indymedia uk using a total different server?

there is no conspiracy

27.06.2003 12:06

There is no conspiracy. The Greek Indymedia servers were having problems even before the Thessaloniki actions, simply due to lack of space. Hard-working IMC techs moved the sites to new servers during the action. Reports such as the one by Babeuf only spread misinformation.
